Xenon... MUCH better than std. The main beams are already Xenon, just want to make the new fogs near the same light temperature so... am getting better HID-like H3 bulbs for the new Hella fog lights that were just installed.

All my cars are equipped with HID's and I would not own a car without them, they are a must if you ever drive at night. As I am also in the automotive lighting business also I've had to opportunity to try all makes of lighting at all levels of brightness and colors and it makes all the difference, simply said, if you don't have it you don't know what you're missing. There is only one thing to watch out for and that is most aftermarket HID systems are not compatible with the factory housing as they will be blinding to oncoming traffic but I've not heard of any bad things like tickets and accidents occurring due to the HID brightness.

The wavelength of the light produced by HID (xenon) headlamps (which is produced by electric arc rather than glowing filament) is comparable to daylight. The light is more focused and intense than halogen, which makes it perfect for low beams, because they can be aimed to illuminate the road and shoulder only. Better color rendition, too, so you can differentiate between doggy or kitty and shrub. If I'm not mistaken, most if not all high beams are standard halogen, which may (not sure) produce greater actual light output - lumens or candlepower. The last five HID equipped cars I've driven have halogen high-beams.

All in all, HID's are much better lights, and should be opted for in all possible cases. I'm sure all future F-cars will feature them, as will just about every other car after 6 years or so. Remember the sealed-beam incandescent to Halogen revolution 30 years ago?

If you can get them on a new car of any kind, do so, and seriously consider the upgrade on any other car. These lights can and just might save your ass one night.

Plus they look cool.

Had the 9006 bulb (lowbeam) and the H1 bulb (foglight) changed out to HID on my 355. It makes a huge difference in the dead of night in the dark desert.

If you ever drive with them, you will never want to go back. Whether you will ever out drive them is not the point, it's like seeing like it's daytime.

They are standard now on the 360 & 575. They were never available on the 550 or 355, and used to be optional on the 360.

If its extra money, skip it, you and the other 3 people on earth that can outdrive a standard high beam , more power to you. It seems like in europe they jam you for north of a grand for xenon. Skip it unless it comes with. I have never met a ferrari owner that said, "wow I could have a xenon!" a Zima maybe.

Plus the xenon can kick you ass if you grab the wrong lead in buld change.,

This may be a stupid question, but what's the deal with Ferrari's and Xenons? Obviously the older ones wont have them, but do the new ones have them? The reason I ask, is because Dan (bobofett) posted a picture of his new 550 with the lights on, and they didn't look Xenon. Sure, the car is a few years old, but do the 575M or 360 come with them??? They are an expensive option for other car mftr, so they should be standard on Ferrari. Are they????
