Dave and all of you,
wehn you buy a car or anything else on e_bay you have to use common sense. If the guy has a car on e-bay and wants to sell it he better fly here to sell it if you are the high bidder. There are a vast amount of dealers on e-bay that do sell legit cars and none of them askes for a deposit before you see and agree to the car.
If someone askes for money before he produces anything is is a scamer. That simple.

Plain common sense!

Mark: Do you know if Wayne still have his 360? The market tanked a bit since 3/02. Hope he avoided the margin call, since he is living his dream!

Anybody that follows Doug Hayashi's racing stories might remember Wayne got his 360 off eBay January of last year. $130K

Story with bidding process here and delivery w/pics here.

Little stuff I have good luck, people seem honorable, the bigger deals, seems like they can't really be done in real life by point and click. If people will pick up the phone and talk a good story and the money is no major deal, do the deal, some good deals can be had. A ferrari, I doubt anyone has really done a point and click even with "internet escrow".

Don't Ebay vet their sellers?

Have you bought other stuff from them, I have been looking at side emblems but will think twice now!

I was the "successful" bidder on a 360 '02 360 coupe at $145k, with 2.6k miles, seems a little lite on the price but what the heck, after a lot of back and forth the seller would not call me or provide his phone number, only said he needed a 10k deposit to make it worth his while to come back from europe to show the lightly driven car. fortunately I did not send the deposit. Since then ebay will do little or nothing and I have now met several people that reported similar problems with cars that seemed a little under market. My advice, is ebay is not really a place to a deal north of a few hundred bucks.
