I drive my 360 and 575 regularly enough to get them dirty. I park them outside my office, and at the local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and take my kids to wherever they are going in them. But I also like the feel of my big benz sometimes because no-one edges into my lane to look at it

I put 1100 miles on the 550 in less than 3 weeks. That daily enough?

I put 4,000 on my 328 last year, from May until November when the water pump died. Pretty good considering I don't drive to work and walk for most of my errands or going out. Unfortunately I live where year-round driving isn't an option with it.

I average about 8k per year. I try to drive it at least 2 days per week, more in the summer. Since I commute with the wife, the Bay Bridge is free in the Ferrrari, saves 2 bucks per day. A good reason to drive it, and with the lack of traffic now, it's a lot of fund to drive on the commute.

My 80 model Scirocco was actually my first car. I have had it since I was 17. Tomorrow will be our 18th anniversary together. I drove it in high school, college, dental school and to work for 6 years after that. The ONLY reason I haven't driven it much in the past couple of years is because I have been putting it through a concourse type restoration. I just sent it to Atlanta last Fri for a 2.0 16V engine transplant. As soon as she's back it will be my daily driver again.
Every once in a while I'll get $hit from someone for driving the same car I had in high school. I just laugh. Who cares? Usually it's from somebody who doesn't know about the rest of my Scuderia. When I tell them I have a Ferrari too it pretty much shuts them up.

Ryan,

i know what you mean EXCEPT my Honda Del Sol is costing me more to maintain than the 308 that is here(!). Which begs to question...

4)THE LAW OF PERSONAL ABUSE
"The more an Italian auto breaks down, the more endearing it becomes
to its increasingly irrational owner." For example, you purchase an
Italian Sports car, for all the money you ever hoped to earn, and
receive a ticket for air pollution on the way home from the dealer due
to the vast clouds of smoke that follow you. Several return trips to
said dealer, accompanied by your rapidly dwindling cash reserves,
cures the smoking. But now, the engine sounds like a food processor
full of ball-bearings. After replacing every component in the car,
including the radio speakers, the noise vanishes and is replaced by an
odor reminiscent of a major fire in a goat-hair mattress factory. You
still keep trying, G-d help you.

Enjoy the Drive,

Pat,
My experience exactly. After I sold it I bought a nice reliable Japanese pocket rocket. It was faster than the VW, it worked perfectly all the time, and it was the easiest car to own. I have never regretted selling it. It had no character, no personality, and no charisma.

I know what it's like to own reliable cars with no personality and I know what it's like to own extremely passionate cars with lots of soul that need a good bit more attention. I will take the latter any day. Bring on the F-car!!

Ryan,

I know how you feel about the Corrado. I had a 93 and loved every minute of it. Too bad I sold it because it was nickel and diming me to death. A month or so ago I came across my 93 Corrado and talked to the owner and he had put over 5 grand into it.

Wow! That's awesome that you have those cars. I used to have a VW Corrado and there are days where I wish I never sold it.
I almost bought a GTI a couple of years ago to make up for it, though. Interestingly enough, my girlfriend (now wife) sort of poo-pooed it. Her thought is that after grad school, no one should drive a GTI. That's not why I didn't buy it but every now and I then I wonder if that kind of thinking is why I don't see more post 30 year olds driving them.
If VW ever brought over the Rallye Golf, or some AWD VR6 of the GTI, I would put down a deposit in a heartbeat. That would be a fantastic daily driver.

I have had to drive mine everyday for the past 2 weeks and I have never done this over the past 7 yrs of ownership. I was forced to because my 16V Scirocco is receiving a new trans since my ex-girlfriend borrowed it, my 80 Scirocco is still recovering from the flood last May, and my Alfa was waiting for the front caliper re-build.
I really didn't like using it to run errands and to get to work but then I realized everyone should be so lucky. I mean, what's really to complain about having to drive a Ferrari everyday?

And where is the difference of sitting in a traffic jam in a Lincoln Towncar or a F355?
The traffic jam sucks no matter what might as well enjoy the sound of the engine a little!

Why would I not eat it daily?

I don't see the point in taking pride in driving a Ferrari as a daily car. Somehow as if you would argue about eating caviar every breakfast or drinking fine wine no matter what you're eating.
I am not arguing that these cars can't do it, it's just that I don't see the fit with their purpose.
There are much better places to be than a 355 when stuck in a jam or crawling in heavy trafic. There are few better places to be than a 355 on an empty windy mountain road.
I guess that "adequacy to purpose" sums it all.

It's raining today, the car is already dusty, so what the heck, let her get wet at work. Definitely a daily driver. The sound of her engine helps wake me up.

Office is at home, but every morning on the way to get the papers I take the long way through the garage, walk past the 360 on the way out and on the way back, admiring. I hate to turn the car off when I park it. Is that a daily driver? ;-)

Count me in.....my 550 is the daily land jet for me. Comfortable, quiet and rides pretty well. But, when I want to open a can of "woop ass" on the various Porsche or Vette drivers around town its pretty damn good at that too!

Mark

John,

The 1985 308GTS QV is my daily driver. Have done 5k+ miles since Feb. In fact at my gal's home right now (spent the eve) and leave the car outside under a car cover. The neighborhood kids love the car :-)

Great daily driver and LOTS of fun :-)

I do. In '01 when I was working full time I put 20,000 miles on my 1988 Mondial coupe. Now i'm tracking at 15,000 miles per year. It is now my only car. I had a '94 Suburban with 250,000 miles but I sold it a few months ago once I was able to drive the Ferrari again.

I'm close, I drive mine almost every day when I get home from work, and almost exclusively on weekends...about 10k miles per year.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that supposedly uses his 355B F1 as his daily driver.

Just sold my P-car, everyday driver, and bought a 355 for my everyday car. I've gotten some strange comments, but curiously it is working out just fine, so I'm curious:

How many of you really use a Ferrari as your sole everyday means of transportation. I'm not talking about someone who drives it 6 sunny months of the year (done that, I'm not talking about using it as an extra car used often), but those of you who use it 365 days (hopefuly not counting down time for service) a year.

My buddy Jim Spiro did it with an F50. I have another buddy who does it with a 360, and another New Orleans guy who does it with a 550. I know Jim G. did it with a TR (115k miles?). Who else is doing this. I'm not counting those who use it most days. I'm talking your sole everyday driver.

Head count of lunatics?
