you are right Roland. I got my pins from you. I trimmed about an inch from each side and then rebent them. they sit in closer to the hub and I think look a little better that way. sorry I'll miss you both in Orleans

I forgot to say that you can get BBS in 18' for less than $3.000.00.
For the hub pins, I must have been the main source to most F40 I know. I get them from
my friends racing Atlantics. They are cheap ($32.00set) Let me know if you need some.

I agree with Chris about the speedline even that I have the big hood/fendres on my LM. I have now BBS custom made for the track and a great set of chromed HRE wheels for the street thanks to my good buddy Chris. I had to go 18"since I have the big brakes etc...This was the same for Chris who made the big brake update.
Tim, we gonna miss you inNew Orleans, I think that Chris will go, we need the 3rd mousqueteer !!!Good luck with new dealership.

Hey Chris. I've been busy in retirement. anyway now I get it, the F40 LM wheels wont fit. yes I had SL Comp get the wheels for me and I remember talking to you about it and was very nervous about them not fitting. he told me they would fit so I just trusted and they fit perfect. the wheels are one inch larger than stock so had to get new tires which where very hard to locate but everything bolted right up. I would have loved to have the OZ wheels but cant get them and as you said they wouldnt have fit anyway, so I got lucky. I just love the raw look of them. the whole car is raw, loud, etc. and the stock wheels where just too pretty for the car. the black wheels in my opinion just finishes off the attitude of the car.

WOW, forgot all about the shirts, everyone will be very very excited. dont know if you know or not but I bought half of Scottsdale Lotus. we also sell Ferrari, Lambo, Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Aston, etc. I have some unbelievable cars coming in very soon. yes please give me a call. I know you are busy and it would probably be easier for you to call me when you are free so I dont catch you in the middle of something. if you dont have my number email me at [email protected] or [email protected]

As far as the quality goes the SAC wheels are the best. If you just like the way that the other wheels look well OK. I would rather have a mag wheel anyday then the Al multipiece. Plus, the mag wheels are 30% lighter and they are stronger. Mag also has a higher stiffness to volume ratio than Al. These wheels are rotary forged and are hands down better wheels. I paid about 6K per set and have been really happy with them. Also, on the LM, If you look at the pictures, the wheels are set 1" into the wheel wells to help correct an oversteer problem with the chassis. LM wheels are also made by Enekie(?). These SAC wheels are the same ones used on the Saleen S7 racecar. Everyone has a opinion. There is no benefit to the use of a three piece wheel. Totally 80's technology.

TIM!

You are alive! I have shirts for you and the "crew" call me!

Tim, I am surprised that your rims fit, we talked about this about the same time you ordered them. Perhaps Speedline made yours with a "stock" F40 offset. (Very unusual without ordering custom)

It is not that Speedlines are bad, it is that the "LM" rims they sell, do not fit a stock F40.

As John pointed out, you either have to machine them or have them custom made, as in John's case.

John is a real pro at this, but I had to learn the hard way, kinda left a bad taste for Speedlines for me, but they are great looking!

I would have loved to have a set, but Speedline never mentioned the "problem" and I was not about to try them again as I had such good results from Kinesis.

Tim, great to see you! We need to talk soon!

I have to go with Chris here, Kinesis are the better quality wheels.

Looks is entirely in the eye of the beholder.

My F40 has stock wheels but then I do not really push that hard when I move the F40. Traction on my desk is pretty good as well with whatever tires BBurrago uses. :-)

These wheels are from Speedline America. They are not speedling wheels. Tim has Speedline America wheels as well. Yes I had to remove the lock pin tube but that was a small price to pay. I ordered the wheels to a custom offset. It is correct that you cannot use LM wheels on a stock F40. I was fortunate enough to have a friend with the LM wheels that let me try them. I found out early on that the wheels did not fit. I currently run at stock ride height with 18 X 10.5 F and 18 X 13 rear, 295/30 F and 345/30 rear with no problems. The original speedlines or OZ wheels will not fit. The SAC wheels are actually better (they are forged and not cast).

I dont get it. I have a set of black speedlines on my car, unmodified and they work great. absolutely no problems at all. why is the speedline so bad for a stock F40?

John,

I have not found the Speedlines to be a good wheel at all for a stock F40. Your car must be modified, or must have airshocks on the front!

The LM wheels are made for a LM F40, not a street F40, the front wheel offsets are entirely wrong, causing the tires to rub against the inside of the front fenders. In order to make Speedlines fit properly you must machine about 2 inches off the inside of the hub on the front rims.

Then you have to remove the safety pin pipe and use Formula Atlatic inside the hub safety pins because you can not get the safety pins on the hubs, these needs to be done on both front and rear hubs.

Speedline is totally without integrity when they sell these rims for a stock F40, in my opinion.

I had a set of Speedlines and sold them.

Roland Linder had Speedlines and sold them.

The quality of the wheel is good, but they are not safe for an unmodified F40.

Kinesis rims have the proper offset, and you can use the safety pins.

Plus, imho, they are a better rim, for less money.

Speedlines are fine if you own a true F40LM....

Speedline America makes great F40 wheels. I have three sets for my F40. They are made of forged magnesium and they kick ass. I believe that they sold out to Champion motorsports. They are a bit pricey but they are the best wheels going. They look correct for the car as well.

OZ's are no longer available for F40's.

I do not reccomend Speedlines.

I use Kinesis, excellent quality.

Does anyone know how much a new set of 4 OZ 18" racing wheels (LM type) are for the F40? Just the cost of the rims without the tyres.

Thanks
