Since the rear of the 348/355 is a frame that is partially held by the engine (I hope I explain this right)these cracks happen if you lift the car up and down. Also body roll will cause these cracks to appear. Absolutly common on these two cars. |

Similar problem on the 328 largely got round by applying rubberised filler between the joints. best regards Dave McGuire |

this is not a problem that effects higher mileage cars! EVERY car will eventually suffer degrading of the rear butress joint. When the cars are made they are spot welded and electro dipped, unfortunately, the primer does not get into the space between the panels and it starts to corrode pushing the filler in the joint upward so the paint cracks as a result |

Seen on quite a few 355s. Not sure what causes it, but I would not be alarmed. If they built them like the 308, it's probally cracking due to all the bondo/filler/lead that's FACTORY! Best! Ben. |

Thanks D. This car was purchased with maybe 14k miles on it (now has 17k), but has had both front and rear bumpers repainted, and the lower quarters. Has lot's of challange stuff on it (according to mechanic) and was in getting a clutch put in. I imagine this car has had considerable track time. |

not uncommon on higher mileage cars. Stress cracks in the paint from use. Drive the cars enough and body will torque enough to cause some minor cracking there. When I saw the subject header for your post, Dave, I just *knew* that this was what you were referring to! vty, --Dennis |

I noticed recently on a 355B that at the rear of the buttresses where they meet the engine lid deck, there was a considerable amount of paint cracking. What would have caused this? Improper use of lifts? Or perhaps the car received some rear impact damage, and this was missed? |
