The Dino's from the 70s were the 1st intro Ferraris. Masers seem to be like a
Diet Ferrari :-)

My dealer accepted a deposit for a Q3 04 Stradale. So I'm on the list just like you. I suppose I'll spec the car in Q1 04

The factory has announced that the Stradale will be on limited production about 400 units a year and only 1400 units will be built. Production starts in mid-2003.

So if any of you want a Stradale better put your deposit now. You can spec the car but the option list is quite limited. Hi-fi, roll bar, leather seats, colour coded calipers, two-tone steering wheel, spare tyre, sliding windows and Pirelli P-zero corsa tyres. And of course in any colour you choose.

I put my deposit 2 months ago and I can only get mine sometime in first quarter 2004. According to my regional sole importer, the factory is "losing" money on the car because they made a mistake on the pricing. Look out for price increase for 2004. So order now to avoid disappointment.

ACW - Out of curiousity, and if you don't mind my asking, were you able to place an order - completely spec out a car - or simply get on the list to place an order? I ask because I am in the latter position. Thanks!

James,

Thank you so much for the info. I wrongly assumed that the Stradale order list was similar to the 360 spider. I talk to my dealer this morning and ordered one!

acw,

>>On top of it they force US dealers to only sell in their region.<<

There are ways around this. I found the same when shopping for Lamborghinis. All it meant was that you could not take delivery of the car in the Bay Area if you purchased from a dealer in a different area.

The problem some friends of mine have run into is that the dealers will not sell to "other dealers". A lot of these guys have a dealers license to overcome taxes and such on their purchases. So it becomes difficult to purchase new cars, although some have been able to acquire them from dealers anyway.

>>I'm surprised you can't order a Stradale. I'd try another dealer. These are available.<<

I too thought Stradales were available. As for when to expect delivery, I don't have a clue.

Cheers

Tim

Have you driven the Maser?? It is definitely not the entry level Ferrari. Different engine, different chasis dynamics, chasis geometry, different seating. The feeling you get back through the steering wheel and seat are totally different from the Ferrari feel. The Maserati was designed as the daily driver. The cars are very quick and competent but are not to be confused with a Ferrari. I do have experience in knowing this.

I mean licensing their name to use on other products such as tic tacs as someone pointed out.

IMO, Ferrari does not need an entry level ferrari. That's what the V8 line is about. However, I believe that Ferrari is going too far by limiting production so much on these lower price products. On top of it they force US dealers to only sell in their region. In my case, Ferrari is quite popular in the bay area so it is impossible to order a new car. This situation forces me to look for other brands and in my opinion, should be fixed by Ferrari by either increasing supply in some states/cities or relaxing the territory restriction.

I wanted a Spider and had to buy another car (Porsche GT2) because of this. Now I want a Stradale but will likely end up buying something else for the same reason: cannot buy a new one.

Low Price is a relative term. I think that Ferrari believes that the "dinos" are their introductory car. Their 1/2 the price of the 12 cylinders.

By "introductory" I assume you mean a lower priced Ferrari for the first time buyer.

They already have these, and a lot of them.........they are called used TRs!!!!!!!!

No. Ferrari is and will remain capacity constrained. A lot of their profit comes from licensing and a lower cost Ferrari would dilute the value of their name. If anything it looks like they are raising their prices.

They already have made 2. They are called the maserati spider and coupe. Seriously though, Ferrari claims that the maseratis arent 'introductory ferraris' but i dissagree.

Do you think Ferrari will ever introduce a Introductory model as Porsche has done with the Boxster.
