The Lotus Elise Motorsport has been built for a spec series in the UK. Compared to the Exige, it has coilover suspensions, slicks, a roll cage, a stack dash, larger brakes, and a few more HPs (200). The weight without driver is around 1650 pounds.

I'm not sure how much faster it is since I have never been in an Exige. Even with 200hp, it is definitely an inertia car with a little torque but a lot of grip. Yet it is significantly faster than a 996 TT on the track.

Here are a few pics.

ACW,

You are correct about Allstate. They added the "at the racetrack" clause in 2001 but it may have something to do with CT state law that they can't institute this policy in CT.

That Elise is awesome. Any other video or pictures. I kow the Motorsport version is faster but what is the difference between your car and the Exige.

I almost bought an Exige in early 2002 from the UK but eventually decided to hold off.

Those cars are unbelievable. Waiting for the street legal one to be brought over next year hopefully.

William,

Are you sure it was Allstate? Allstate added a restriction about 2 years ago to specifically exclude any damage that took place at race track whether or not the event is competitive or timed.

IMO, the best way to proceed is to buy a track only insurance such as american collector insurance, on top of the regular street insurance.

Lotus are a lot of fun. They even sound great. This is my Lotus Elise Motorsport @ Thunderhill:

Did my first actual race in it today, I'll post pics and videos later tonight. I got 2nd overall of 16 cars. Only thing that beat me was a little 1,500 Lotus 7 looking thing.

They'll drop you just for asking if they would cover you, even if you haven't done an event yet. Just happened to me.

a guy this friday spun at Lime Rock & slammed his 360 spyder passenger side into the armco, actually it was his friend driving. Amazing they are still talking.

The owner said he asked Allstate & they said they would cover him. I bet they'll drop him like a bad habit afterwards though

If something happens and it is a driver education event and not a race, your insurance company will probably cover you but you may need an attorney to apply pressure, and in any case expect to be dropped after they pay off.

There is special "track event" insurance you can get, but the cost (premium) for *each* event is about 10% of your car's value.

No regular car Insurance company will cover you on the track! Don't even tell them you plan on taking your car racing, they will either drop you like a brick or raise your rates.

I read a lot of post's where street driven F-cars
are taken to the track on weekend's. Due you need to have special insurance for that, or will you're regular insurance cover it.
