Yea, I need to get those shirts out. I don't have that many right now, but I'm going to put a new order in. All the sponsors that have paid will get them by Christmas, I promise. Send me your new address Tom just to be sure. Thanks. |

Just making sure everyone has seen this as it was a big event for me and the FC race car. We're still accepting sponsors at http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/raceteam/index.htm. |

John, I started Autocrossing in 2000 and did my first club race in 2001. I haven't been doing it long, but I've done quite a bit in that time. I've done 17 AX's, 10 track events, and this weekend was my 40th club race. Each one of those club races also would have a qualifying session in the morning and sometimes even a practice. I have much to improve though. I'm 4th in the Texas SRX7 points out of about 40 drivers total and only about 12 regular drivers. Was hoping my new SRX7 would get me more competitive, but a locked engine doesn't help that any. |

Rob, Look at my first batch of vids. Looks like maybe your camera is a bit higher than mine but the view is about the same except my mirror is slightly higher. Also keep in mind that I don't have a windshield banner which further reduces your view. You can get an inexpsnive lipstick cam and just plug it into your cam corder and then mount it anywhere for best view. I am thinking of doing this. Jon

Rob Great job with the 355. Really impressive with the consistant lap times. How long have you been racing? What class were you running in and did you have any competition in your class or were you the only car? John |

Now that I look at it again, I think the only difference is the wide angle lens. Thanks. |

Rob, It's and I/O Port. I mount mine literally between the two seats (when the passenger seat is installed. It sits about shoulder level.) Keep in that I have the old OMP cage and it has one bar that runs from the right top corner above my head down to the left corner of the car behind the seat. Your SCCA cage may be constructed differently. Other thing you might want to get is a wide angle lense. It's cool seeing your steering and shifting. Regards, Jon

http://www.nsxfiles.com/fontana_ferrari.htm Check out that site, the videos are down at the bottom (I am presuming that they still work). 355 with camera... although I now I think about it, Jon's advice probably would be better, considering he has a 355 challenge |

Jon, I got David Scott's shirt to him as I saw him in person. I'll have to mail yours out and the 3rd person too. I'm not very good about mailing stuff. Go ahead and use whatever videos you want. Your videos come out better without the rear view in the way, where do you place the camera? Are you using an I/O Port camera mount? Have you used the Dunlops yet? My Pirelli's had about 15 heat cycles on them, so I put the Dunlops on for the race. I drove up to grid and noticed there was hardly any tire clearance and the fender lip in the rear. Not wanting to puncture at 120 mph+ I ran back to the pits and put the Pirelli's back on the rear. The 295/18 Pirellis have a good 3/4 inch of room, but the 285/18 Dunlops had almost no gap. How much will a tire move around as it heats up and has side load? If it has zero movement, then it may of been ok, but I didn't want to chance it. I'm really happy with how my car is handling and how the wearable parts are holding up. After about 8 track sessions my pads all have about 60% life left and the rotors show no signs of cracking. |

Rob, Awesome! Man I envy you having the guts (or the budget) to race your Challenge car. As for the Caterham 7 thingy, next time just walk up during the griding and leave a little air pressure out of his rear tire. Great video! Mind if I use it on my website? Regards, Jon P. Today I competed in my first race with the FerrariChat.com 355 Challenge. It was a NASA race held at Motorsport Ranch CC in Cresson, TX (www.motorsportranch.com). I had planned to race my new SRX7 #12, but after finally finishing it at 1am Saturday, it wouldn't turnover because of a locked engine. Saturday I just towed it to MSR anyway because the guy that works on my SRX7 has a shop out there. Very disappointing, but after just spectating Saturday I decided to race the 355 C on Sunday. Everything went very well. I qualified 2nd of 16 with a 1:24.19. Only thing faster was this lightweight open wheel thing that looked like a Caterham 7, although it had a name like Becham or something. Anyway, it was very fast with a 1:19.75. Behind me was an assortment of 80's and 90's muscle cars and late model imports. Being on the front row I just lined up next to the pole and when the flag went green I got a great start. However, my wheels were still very cold and I had a handful at the first corner while the pole guy got by me. I did hold off everyone else. After a couple laps the pole car was way ahead and I was equally ahead of 3rd place. Pretty much just a solo time trial at this point until I started hitting lapped traffic at about 8 laps. Over the last part of the race the only excitement was passing about 8 lapped cars. 1st in class and 2nd overall for the first race outing of this car since it ran the Challenge series. Although my best lap today was about what I've done in the past, I was very pleased with my consistency. All laps were in the 1:23-24's, except for one 1:26 when I had a bunch of traffic. 1:27.11 - start 1:23.50 1:23.98 1:23.28 1:24.18 1:24.01 1:26.03 - bad traffic 1:24.48 1:23.48 1:23.14 1:24.27 1:23.50 1:24.82 - 2 to go, backing off 1:24.84 - 1 to go, backing off Funny those last two laps as I thought I was backing way off and it was only 1.5 seconds slower. These will be the type of laps I'll do with passengers. I had a full in car video, although mostly boring because of the lack in action. I also haven't found a great position for the camera. Either the mirror is in the way like these videos or it's too low and you only see the dash and sky. First video is the green flag start as I get a good jump, get wild for a second, and then the pole car flys by me. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/videos/rob355c/20030803_355c_MSR_NASA_start.mpg Second video is exciting as I go the inside of a Miata, but it takes the corner like he rightly can because I hadn't completely overtaken him. Although legal and a good aggressive move, I don't think he did it on purpose. He was probably focusing on the car ahead of him and didn't see me. This is about as close to contact as I want to get. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/videos/rob355c/20030803_355c_MSR_NASA_SMcut.mpg Tillman and Jayson from FC and the local FCA came out to watch. Thanks for taking these pictures.
