"First thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" is in one of Shakespeare's plays (Henry VI).

Launch Control is standard equipment in non-USA 575M's with F1 transmission. The software has been disabled in the USA because of fear of litigation arising out of someone's misuse that causes an accident.
Kinda what we deserve given the litigious society we have created. "First thing we do is kill all the lawyers"
Who ever it was that first said those words (Aristotle perhaps?) had it right! A wise path indeed, but limited to that perculiarly nasty breed, the Trial Lawyer

The computer cuts injectors in random order and may modulate throttle to achieve a pre-programmed slip value for the drive tires vs. the undriven tires. The idea is to maximize the traction available for acceleration. A tire produces maximum grip at one specific slip value, friction dependent, below this threshold, you're not putting as much power to the pavement as you could, above this threshold, you've reduced traction and if you continue to increase slip, you just melt the rubber. Your foot is not as quick as the computer. The computer launch control turns you into a professional every time. That's why it's so great.

FWIW, for about $1500, Race Logic builds a system for the aftermarket that's adjustable, and has launch control. It works very well, and if you have ABS, installs quite easily.

Race Logic

I've had my system for almost four years and love it, especially in the winter. It's fun on the track, too.

"BMW launch control burns out the clutch in BMWs after about 4 launchs"

Which is EXACTLY what is required to get a high reving (low TQ) engine to deliver its best drag strip performance. The clutch is USED UP to deliver that performance.

I have been told by a very knowledgeable BMW salesperson (who used to sell Ferraris) that the BMW launch control burns out the clutch in BMWs after about 4 launchs. It sounds like a great idea in principle.

i know for the BMW SMGII transmission all you have to do is turn off traction control, hold down the brake, then press the gas. you select the rpm for launch then release the brake and off you go. it's similar to what F1 uses, i'm sure ferrari's are somewhat the same.

Yes.

As to how well it actually works, I have no idea.

Not sure if the LC mode is going to make it to US models of the 360 CS, I'm interested if anyone has any info.

Anyway as you may have seen the F1 launch system seems to be "underperforming" at the moment - as indicated by Rubens being overtaken on both sides (which led to the 1st corner accident). I hear that the guy that built the F1 LC system was at Benetton, left to join Ferrari and has now gone back to Renault (ex Benetton) - Conspiracy anyone?

Perhaps he put a detector that slows down the F-car if a Renault is nearby just before he left :-)
