this is a rather old issue and it is not true. maserati and ferrari will develop two totally different engines. the only common is the engine block. i have this information from an automative engineer who is technical director of the world maserati owners club and he visited the engine engineering department of maserati this spring and got the information directly from them.

Don't know if he meant coupe or spider. I believe he said 360 allocations (coupe & spiders) but I'm not positive on the exact wording. He mentioned it, I was talking with my son as well, and I'd didn't follow up.

For what it's worth I assumed he would mention any change becuase he and I had talked about it before since I had been to the top of the last for the last 9 months and held off the first 6 months to see if there was news 1Q this year.

When I picked up my '03 Spider 3 weeks ago the dealer informed me they were beginning to get their '04 allocations/build slots and there is no change.

Can we assume that anyone due to be getting an '04, must definitely know, at this point in time, that there is, or is not an "update" ??

As of last week Eccelstone had asked for a change in the US GP to June 04 instead of September. The object was to do it right after the Canadian GP.

We'll know in October when the new models come out, if this year gets an update or not.

Marvin, I saw one version of this engine on Tuesday in the shop of a Maserati/Ferrari dealer. The dealer told me that it was designed and built by Ferrari. He said it was designed in a modular fashion and could be configured in 6, 8 or 12 cylinders. He said they went back to 4 valves per cylinder and went to a timing chain instead of a belt. He said that this was to be the engine in the 420 and in the upcoming replacement of the 456.

I did the factory tour last year and in the engine assembly shop the V8 line had a mix of 360 and Mas engines so I guess that from a mechanical POV the engines are both assembled by Ferrari techies and I'm sure that there is a lot in common inside. It would make no sense otherwise and it wouldn't be possible to sell a Mas for under 100k if it was a completely different car.

It was also annouced (no joke)that the Maserati QPorte will offer as an option, a 4.2 DIESEL engine. Maybe the 360 successor will be the F420D ?

Is the Maser engine designed by Maserati engineers or is it designed by Ferrari and badged by Maserati? Is there even such a thing as Maserati engineers or is everything designed by Ferrari? :-)

I'm a little skeptical about "365". Ferrari wouldn't reuse a model name from the 1960's.

Oh no here we go with consolidation of components ...

Man the auto industry sucks right now. Cars, even Ferraris, are getting more and more like buying fridges ...

I read that first an update of the current car will be outfitted with modified new maserati engine called the 365. Then about a year later a completely new car out with that engine. So it will be an 8 cylinder but about 485horse i imagine.
