The one I'm currently doing had 70k miles. Found one broken top ring, and the cylinders out-of-round over spec. Valves were also leaking, and worn beyond regrinding (would be too thin afterwards). Valve springs below minimum seat pressure too. The engine still ran reasonably well, but had low compression on several cylinders.

Don't know the history, so that may have an effect. It would appear valves were reground once before since they would not accept grinding this time.

Mine has 15K miles on a rebuild. It had about 50K miles when rebuilt, but it was not really worn out. The prior owner wanted it rebuilt for more power. It runs great now, high oil pressure and does not use a measurable amount of oil. It will puff a tiny amount of smoke on cold startup sometimes and also if you stomp the accelerator... but my understanding is that is normal with webers. They have a reputation of being very strong engines.

Edward

I have 50K miles on my Daytona engine. No trace of weakness. Oil pressure is high, and the engine hardly uses any oil. When I bought the car the compression and leakdown tests were excellent

But I'd guess it falls into the OMG category when it needs doing...

Well I have two friends with over 50k miles and neither has had a major overhaul. I don't think either has had any top-end work either.
