To all interested parties, and there are 82 on this thread so far, I just left a phone message for John at his home number. And, as a courtesy and just for the record, I have not yet heard back from him directly by phone or email. As I indicated in my message early today when I discovered this, this was a surprise to me and wish that he would have contacted me directly with any problem. Instead, we have the FChat community involved. We will try to resolve the problem between the two us.

It started when YOU called Bruce's Testarossa a "banana car". Do you have an issue with yellow Ferraris? Or with Testarossas? Or the combination of yellow Testarossas? Inquiring minds want to know...

I wondered when the car snobbery and proving of credentials would start

If it matters at all to any of you... check out this thread

As for my introduction to the community, I've been here for a while... I don't post much due the banality of a lot of other people's comments ... as evidenced by this thread.

Again, the real point has been missed... what about those tires?

LWR - Bruce's "Banana" car was looking just fine last night getting its major service at WWoC.
What do you drive? I did not see any mention of a Ferrari or other exotic sports car in your profile. Are you an enthusiast? You've done a great job introducing yourself to this community.

'sarcasm' ... yes, a little. "SARCASISISISM"... you'll have to help me out a little with that one.

Seriously, surely that's the answer here... Paul refunds the money... John ships back the tires.

All I've heard so far is some mud-slinging. The real issue as to how this is sorted amongst our community is being dodged.

I think it's fair to say that anyone buying tires for that price, on the understanding they had only done 900 miles, would expect them to be in far better condition. As a road tire they're useless.

You can sling your 'another tire expert' mud if you like, but it's my opinion, I'm expressing it and that's the point of these forums.

John,

I mean no disrespect, but the amount of attention drawn to this post could have been averted by resolving this in confidence with Paul.

The number of opinions, including mine, are not necessary in resolving the issue between the two of you.

You have every right to be upset about the purchase, and Paul has every right to explain and make you whole. If there is no meeting of the minds then I and others believe you should inform the rest of the F-chat and F-car community.

Take this issue off-line, resolve it, shake hands, and lets keep the mood here up beat.

Respectfully,

Mario

Pete, I was implying in the original post that the tires would be good for secondary or extra or track tires; just instead of buying them new. not meaning that I had any experince using them on the track. thanks for your opinion.

Try calculating the mileage by measuring tread remaining.
Most tires when new have 10/32" tread.
Measure the existing remaining tread.
If the tire has a rating wear of 10k miles and only 5/32 is remaining, then the tire has 5k miles on them.
Call manufacturer or TireRack for tire info/stats.

Paul,

sorry, i didn't know they were not tracked at all, i guess i took it as implied that they were,

i assumed they'd been driven some on the track and some on the street

imho 600 miles street use looks about right
600 miles track use they'd be bald

one plus for you is in your ad, you did say they'd be good for track use, implying they were ok but not perfect
that's the way i would have taken it anyways

Thanks you also Pete. But in all fairness you would have to see the tires personally to get the correct picture. These tires on my car have never seen the track. As a metter of fact, there are other members that know me and my car, that I drive the car infrequently and like a "you know what".

imho

i would expect tires to look exactly like that even after 40 laps around laguna seca, which amounts to about 90 miles is all, or one day of hard racing

you can tell they've been on the track by the marbles glued to the outside tread, pic on the right

i'm not sure what you expected, but those tires look like what i would have expected based on what you said you were told prior to purchase

if you wanted tires that looked like new you should have bought new tires and not been so cheap

buying used tires is like buying used underwear, you get what you get

alot of equally if not better alternatives to the Goodyear F1's anyways

imho you paid too much, seeing those pics, i would have paid approx $100 per tire is all, but over paying is your fault, not the sellers fault

did you see pics prior to purchase ?

my opinion is, you were not lied to

just hmo

Good morning All. I am amazed by all of the attention within the past 12 hours on this site. I usually come into work early to read all the posts from the day before and see what is going on with everyone and their posts, and to my surprise I see all of this garbage! LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THIS IS THE FIRST I AM HEARING OF THIS AND I AM PISSED OFF! There are only a few people on FChat that know me personally. I am sure they will verify that I am not the type of person to misrepresent myself. PLUS, also let it be known to some of you with the sarcastic comments, that if and when I track my car I have a second set of tires that I use. The tires that I sold were street tires and I do not drive aggressively on the street. I would offer to show a receipt for the tires showing the mileage when they were purchased but honestly, I don't think I still have it. The Goodyears are hard to find, so I was told by others, and that is why I mentioned it in the original post. ALSO, TO ALL OF THE TIRE EXPERTS OUT THERE....I am not in the tire business, but it is also true that the Fiorano's are a soft compound tire therefore they will wear quicker. Let me repeat myself...I AM PISSED and DON'T APPRECIATE THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS.

I'm relatively new to Ferrari Chat so I don't know John or Paul but I do know a little about high performance tires.Rob Lay made an excellent point in his post . These are high performance tires. Minimal tread depth is to be expected, even when new. To my eye, the tires looked fine for what they are. They actually looked pretty good for 600 miles . There are certain classes in SCCA that run DOT tires and they are lucky to get one race weekend (about 100 miles) out of them. I've got a set of Pirelli P7000's with a lot less tread than yours.
I submit that the tires were not misrepresented but that John was not informed enough about the product he was purchasing.

I can see where John is coming from completely. While it would be nice (for the seller) if this had been handled offline first, that wouldn't let folks know that it happened in the first place. It is valuable to know that this occurred - and just as valuable to potential future buyers that it was resolved.

The other part to keep in mind is that it's pretty clear the product was misrepresented. Maybe it was an accident, but it doesn't seem likely. If the seller was a tire company and they maybe got switched, then OK, but in this case and in the way the product was talked about, it was pretty clear the item was an almost-new set of tires - a one-off deal. The product looks really REALLY worn - more like 6k miles on those tires.

I'd be pretty upset too if I were John C, and I think he has every right to post his feelings on the matter.

I paid for them myself and as you probably already know since your such an avid ferrarichat poster, ferraris happen to be somewhat pricey to maintain. The SL is a mercedes and doesn't need maintanence as often and the lexus, well, i don't really maintain. I paid for them all using money I have recieved from various computer jobs. But I'm flattered that you have taken such a liking to all of my posts and please, I would love to see more of what I wrote reposted.

Art,
he was nice to me in the email too.
Rob,
1) Paul advertises his Scuderia Shields and used tires in this discussion and NOT classifieds.
2) I have read many threads that are from unhappy "consumers" against entire dealerships, ebays, mechanics, individuals, etc. and there have been no resistance.
3) Either way, what is unfair to Paul? (We all like him, so it seems unfair?) He should stand by his "product." I really feel the unfairness is to me. There would be no issue if someone posted a picture of acceptable tires or the nice shields they received from him. I feel the real issue is not me posting, but the misrepresentation.
4) It's good to see Ferrarichat is a tight group and having frieds defend you is nice, but PLEASE, look at the tires and how you would feel having received this condition tires when you were told 600 miles used (no, BS about 600 on track, etc). I just can't mount them.
5) Thank you for your recommendations.

We are waaayyy off topic and making it like the old "prove you have a Ferrai posts." The facts are clear. The photos are posted. Everyone can have their own opinions. Thanks.

DES, good response. It's a shame to have the kind of personal attack banter here earlier on this thread.

Bruce,
Since you are not a physician, you should know that Lexapro, like the other SSRIs does have side effects such as insomnia, diaphoresis, nausea, and reports of male ejaculatory dysfuction.

John, have you called/emailed/ or otherwise somehow communicated with Paul...? To flagrantly lambaste Paul without first speaking with him regarding the result of the transaction is all hot steam and no real beef... In his own way, that's pretty much what Bruce is saying... All this nonsense about psychotropics etc. is uncalled for...

Let's first wait for Paul to get here or you and he can agree to let this drop and take it off line... To sit here and go back and forth like this is detrimental to you, others involved and the community as a whole...

i hope, no matter the outcome, that this thread stays right here so that we can all learn from it - whether what TO do or what NOT to do, pending on the outcome...

Above all, i hope things work out for all parties involved in said transaction; as a community heavy with the enthusiasm of a piece of history and a modern-day iconic legend, it's incumbent on this board and it's members to behave appropriately and in a manner conducive to furthering the appreciation for the marque; not squabbling...

EW, i sounded mature there...! Blech...!

Sigh... what an ass. John, I suggest it's best to just not talk to someone so incredibly rude with such a chip on his shoulder.

Bruce,
You are correct. There are better ways. You should heed your own advise. Pozac, a selective serotonin uptake inhibitor is the oldest generation. I would recommend Paxil over both Zoloft and Prozac. Also, what planet am I suppose to go back to? You wrote, "we love you Paul..." (Well, we love you Kobe Bryant)... so we know he can do no wrong?

Bruce, do you ALWAYS HAVE TO YELL, unlike most everyone else here? If you're going to criticize someone else's internet/forum etiquette, you should also take care of your own.

I just CAN'T sell tires in these condition to anyone. Also, he said, "use them daily or track.", not "used as track..." Either way, there is a common sense of decency that anyone can see, that these are really useless tires. The only benefit is his pocket. I am only sharing what happened. The bottom question is if you would feel good about selling these tires to anyone on Ferrarichat or anywhere. (Yeah, for $500.00 bucks). Not me.

JOHN

THERE ARE WAYS TO ADDRESS YOUR ANGER AND FRUSTRATION ABOUT SOMETHING....TO PUT IT ON A PUBLIC FORUM, IN MY OPINION SHOWS LITTLE CLASS AND IGNORANCE...THATS WHAT I AM ATTACKING..

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM OR PISSED OFF ABOUT SOMETHING..GO DIRECTLY TO THE SOURCE..CALL HIM, EMAIL HIM LIKE A GENTLEMAN...NOT JUST OPENLY ATTACK HIM LIKE YOU DID...........

John, that SOUNDS like it sucks.

However, did he tell you HOW the 600 miles were accrued? If they were accrued on the track, I wouldn't be surprised if they looked like that.

Remember, he said "street OR track tires...

Bruce, I guess you believe what Paul said represented himself well. It's not a popularity contest. (Koby or not Kobe or Arnold or not). I liked Paul. His inputs are very helpful. I think you would be upset too if you received such poor condition tires for $500 under misrepresentation.

July 21 - July 30, 2003, Paul Bianco wrote, "I have heard that Goodyear F1 Fiorano tires are hard to find. I have 2 rear tires I would like to sell; a left rear and a right rear. Use them as daily tires or track tires. The size is 275-40-18. Both tires have only been driven about 600 miles. From the Tire Rack, they sell for $371 each. If interested, make me an offer." Eventually, I purchased them for $500.00. I received them today and the condition is worse than my current ones! "... only driven 600 miles!!!" BULL !!! They have a millimeter before the ware bars! (Well, I'm sending them back and no thank you for wasting my time.) I expect more integrity from a fellow Ferrari owner rather than ebay style treatment. Also, cancel my Scuderia shield order.Upload
