The gears in a transmission are sized for the torque that the engine produces. A 4.2 litre engine produces 17% more TQ than a 3.6 litre engine; so at very least, the gears would have to be beefed up.

The amount of cooling a transmission needs is proportional to the amount of HP the engine can produce. Since the Stradale engine in 3.6 litre form produces 420 HP, a 4.2 litre engine in the same state of tune can be expected to produce 490 HP. The coolers associated with the engine and transmission would have to be beefed up.

The shafts, bearings, and associated running gear would need similar beefing up. None of this beefing up is out of the question of simple materials selection and machining.

A clever company like Ferrari will have no problem in creating the required bracketry to connect the Ferrari version of this Masserati engine to the 360 transmission. Whether the package fits in the engine bay is a different issue.

I feel certain that the 3.6L being mid-mounted vs. the 4.2L being front mounted would make quite a big difference. It would probably be easier to order a custom stroker crank for the 3.6L in the Modena. Of course, if what you're looking for is low end torque, it would be cheaper to just buy a Maranello.

Isn't the current Maserati engine & f1 trannie made by Ferrari & if so, I was just wondering if one just couldn't take the Maserati engine, de-tune it, and drop it and the f1 trannie into a 360, and vola... eliminate all the current f1 problems plus get more power.

If that's the case, I'm gonna rent a Maserati for a weekend and do the ol' swap...
