It took you a week to hit 8800rpms? I'd be there on the 2nd time out.
If you really want the smells, sounds and feels, go with an older model such as a 365 or carbed 308. Those really have it moreso than the F355. With an F355, if you smell fuel i think that means its time to get the fire extinguisher out.
Keep enjoying the new car.

Thanks David!

I'm feeling better now that a couple of you experience the same thing.

After driving around in BMW's and MBZ's..this is a totally new environment.

I love it!

Mario,

My 355 Spider has all the same symptoms. It is not a problem. The fan is suppossed to cycle on at 190. I also 'feel' warm air while sitting in traffic with the fans on...I think it is coming through the engine cover. The mid-engine design, with the open engine cover, allows all the engine 'smells' to eminate up to the driver. Lotus Esprit's are the same way. Enjoy and don't worry!

"Mitch,
That's because you have an engine in front of you! : )"

The engine in my F355 is not in front of me, the windows were up, A/C on, external air, and speed was decelerating from 70-ish to 50-ish.

Each time I smelled a whif of oil from my engine bay, it turned out to be an axle boot going south.

I'm sorry, I've so far only read half of your post, but the smell we're hit with when we swing open the garage is... Petrol. lol. It's metal, oil. But different, beautifully so. What's that? Okay, we're driving, and we sense...A sauna. Pine, hot wood. Resin. WTF?!
We went out tonight. A smattering of rain almost convinced me to take the BM, but my wife allayed my reservations. Such a treat. We went to eat outside by the Seine at this place that does their own foie gras. The chef did exceptionally well considering I'd parked right outside the open kitchen door. An enchanting evening, and the romance was just tuned by its means of conveyance. What an amazing thing.

Ricky,

I'm likely over re-acting because of the car being my first. The temps are fine, the car runs fine, it's likely me being mental.

Inexpreience is likely the root of this.

My 355 GTS has the same sounds and feels as yours and I believe is normal. The engine does run extremely hot. I do not have the smells that you are experiencing. Good luck - fabulous car

I'm now over 1 week of ownership and of course, love my car. Hopefully some of you can compare notes with me to set me at ease. Is this stuff normal?

Ferrari Sounds:

Fan comes on in the left lower rear section near the door around 190 degrees of engine temp...cycles on and off.

Ferrari Smells:

After driving at normal tempature I can smell the hint of an engine. (I know, i'm asking for it) What I mean is I can smell gear oil, exhaust heat...nothing major, I'm just not used to having an engine inches behind me. No the car does not have oil underneath it. My PPI found cam seal seepage on the 5-8 bank. I have smelled this in other cars without shifter boots, big block engines etc.

Ferrari Feels

All the gauges read normal temps..but with windows down, I feel heat from the engine. Not on fire...just warm.

That's it..I'm sure it's all normal, but for a freshman, what do you expect.

Mario
