In May 2001, for the FCA Annual Meet, I took my '81 308 GTSi from Minnesota to St. Louis to Memphis to Dallas (then ALL around Dallas including some HOT days of tracking) then back to Minneapolis through Kansas City; 4200 miles over two weeks without missing a beat! One highlight was the lunch stop at Hooters in Memphis, TN: buy lunch and get a free car wash by the Hooters girls outside, I should have sold tickets to this....

Very cool pic of your car, Peter. Super long lens photos of Ferraris always look so good!

The car below went on several multi-hundred mile vacations (my old 328):

I love to travel in mine. I've done half-a-dozen weekend trip this summer nearly 3K miles no problems. I rode motorcycles everywhere for so long that the luggage space in the 308 seems so luxurious! These days with airline bag sizes so small I would think most had learned to pack less. I also do one trick: take clothes that you want to hang or keep pressed by leaving them in the dry cleaning bags then put them in a light weight hanging bag. Put that bag between the roof top and the firewall. I also utilize the space in the spare tire for car supplies or the cover.

My girl friends loves it when I drive fast, but I also do it very smoothly. Art, tell your wife she'll get to spend so much more time at the destination to shop longer if you take the Ferrari.

Marin to Monterey in the Mondial is 125 miles each way for a 4-day weekend with the wife and kid and all of our bags, car cover, tonneau and detailing kit. This weekend is the Concorso Italiano, Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca and Pebble Beach Concours. The red-headed stepchild of the familia has some real advantages on a trip like this.

several yrs ago, took my 328 on vacation during XMAS time up to Denver(weather was chilly but not snowy).

Got a parking spot on the corner of Cherry Creek shopping area, by the Tattered Cover book store(ritzy part of town, at that time, the only high end shopping district in Denver/Boulder).

Cold evening, little bit of fog, gawd, that car looked really cool.

No problemo, just be prudent.

Be aware that long distances in some Fcars can kinda beat up your ears, and might be a little cramped.

Wuz kinda neat blastin' through parts of New Mexico on the way, tho. :-)

We took our TR on vacation several years ago. We went from Florida to Virgina and toured Civil War battlefields on the way. We ended up at a Southeast FCA meet at Rockingham, NC where I drove the car on the track. And after all that the car took a top award in the concours! The car never missed a beat! Who says you can't drive these cars!! :-)

I drive frequently to Vancouver, BC (about three hours away) for the weekend. No worries, just cover the car in the hotel parking garage.

I'm driving my car 3 hours on Thursday to Monterey for a 5 day mini-vacation. Concourso

My wife is leaving Tuesday (2 days before me) in an X-5 so she can carry our luggage. : )

No room left for shopping bags in the Ferrari.

I'm heading out on vacation today in the 456. That's what the car (456) was designed for, in my opinion.

I'll be taking a 3 week vacation starting September 6, and driving from Munich, down to the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland, then down to Maranello, then back up through Austria. I'll probably drive about 2,600 miles during this period. But on the Autobahn, those miles go fast (!!) I'll have a 360 Modena most of the time, but will have a Challenge Stradale for one day of touring around the Bodensee, and a 575M for another day of touring around the Black Forest. I'm counting the days and can't wait!

when i go on vacation, i want to know new girls, i don't bring 'em with me ;-)
so i don't have this problem and can drive as long as i want to.
(ok, i'm not married, that makes it easier)

Ive not done that for a very simple reason: I like to drive the car. When I go on vacation, the wife ususally likes to get out of the car and see things. Hard to accomodate her in the Ferrari.

the longest trip i have made with my mondial was from switzerland down to the most southern part of spain (andalucia). about 18 days and around 6000 km. i was checkin for the parking situations of hotels though. you have to be careful where you park your car in southern europe. beside of that i had no problems and it was great fun.

Relax. Its just a car and they are not made of glass or will melt in the rain. I've taken my F cars on 8 1000-1500 tours without any problems or any special "repair kits" including a 328, 512TR and 360.

I am always amazed how people think of their Fcars as something super fragile and not suitable for normal usage. Don't end up on your death bed wishing you had driven your fcars more because your heirs sure will.

I've taken it on 3-day weekends of up to 400 miles each way, but the 308 doesn't have enough luggage space to cover a long vacation for two people!

I do scope out the hotel we'll be staying at (unless we're staying with friends) so I understand their parking situation. I used to take my service manuals with me, but the car has been so trouble-free, I don't bother any more.

Hi all.

As it is now the vacation season I was wondering how many of you drive the car to your vacation destination rather than catch a 'plane ?

How far do you go ? Are you paranoid about leaving it anywhere ? What if it breaks down ? Do you take a service and repair kit with you ?

Cheers !
