Morrie and Andy, again, do an archive search on "Valentine". I've advocated in the past to do exactly what Brian extols - just mount the V1 at the top of the windshield, just to the left of the mirror. Unobtrusive, and easily removable. Very easy to hardwire - just thread the cord under the windshield header trim, then down the passenger side A-pillar trim (use a credit card to push the wire under the trim), then you can run it right into the fuse-box area in the passenger footwell. Use a fuse tap from Radio Shack to tap into a fuse (powered with the ignition). 10 minute job; Charles Perry and I did it in my 355 in the dark parking garage of the Hotel Du Fort in Montreal). vty, --Dennis |

My goofy Mondial doesn't even have a standard cigarette lighter plug. Just a "heater element" that will light a cig by putting the tobacco end into the hole. Who thought that was a good idea? I do have an old K40 that came with the car. Piece of (&@P... I bought a GTechPro G-meter and can't use it in the f-car... At least I knox how fast my S-class is... ;-) |

I wouldn't bother with the mirror V1... if you have a recent V1, is thin enough that it fits perfectly above and to the left of the mirror... use the hardwire kit to wire it into the lights above the mirror (choose a wire switched by the ignition)... then you can trivially take the V1 out of the car when you want to, leaving just the little phone-cord-plug hanging down at the very top of the window. The whole thing is barely noticeable from outside the car, and perfectly positioned for use inside the car. Low cost; low effort; almost perfect result, IMO. |

Its all hidden. It has two sensors in the front and one in the rear. Everything is hidden, except for the display screen. It can be mounted in several different places. If anyone has any questions about it feel free to ask. |

Ive used the Escort SRX. It is a built in radar detector/ laser shifter. It is the best detector I have ever used. If a laser hits your car it scrambles the signal. The Passport 8500 is also the best dash mounted detector I have used. The V1 is very good, but not my favorite. |

Listen to Dennis, and buy the hardwire kit from Valentine. It's a snap to hardwire the V1 to the car's electrical system so you never have that nasty curly wire on your dash. It literally does only take 10 min. |

Thanks guys, I have had so so experience with the K40 in my 996tt, I tried the new battery powered escort in my couple, (someone moved the passenger seat back and broke it.) really not impressed at all. I like the V1 but need something without wires. Mario, can you tell me know to contact about the mirror? I'll search the archives and see what I can find. |

Morrie -- this subject has been discussed at length. Search the archives - try "Valentine" "hidden" or "K40". There may not be a consensus, but certainly the majority of respondents favor using the Valentine 1. Which is not "built in", but if hard-wired discreetly, and using the remote display module, is pretty close. Mario, consider hardwiring the V1 in your 355. Can be done in 10 minutes using a driver's license and a fuse tape (box of 5 from Radio Shack, $0.99). vty, --Dennis |

Morrie, I have a K40 built in in my 355. Candidly, I rather use my Valentine 1 and forego using the K40. The V1 is far more superior and if the lighter adapter wasn't so far away I would use the V1. I'm so used to the arrows and bogey counter that all the beeping the K40 does is annoying. Buy the Valentine 1 mirror unit that a vendor is selling here on F-chat. It is well worth it. |

Just wondering if anyone has had a radar detector built in to their car. I have had built in K40's just wondering if there might be another option. |
