Sport Rider (motorcycle magazine) in the current issue has part two of a very in depth oil analysis and test.

To much to summarize, yet I suggest our co-members take a read of it.

In answer to the question...I would not mix. One must read this two-part article.

I would beg to differ. The way these cars run - I wouldn't be so quick to mix different weights. Perhaps it's not as apparent in motor oil as it is in gear oil, but still, generally not practiced.

No problem mixing them, as long as your particular car isn't requiring one or the other specific weights, since you'll end up with something in-between.

There's also no problem combining synthetics with dino motor oils, you just "dilute" the synthetic properties. Synthetics are fully miscible with regular oil. There are even some manufacturers that do that kind of combo mixing right inside the bottles you buy off the shelf. Again, make sure your car doesn't require one or the other. My '03 Acura manual, for example, states it can use either. In fact, when I took it back to the Acura dealer for its first oil change, they said they now use a "blend" of synth and dino oil rather than all synthetic, but they recommend the same extended schedule as they would with full synthetic.
