Finally got a body shop report. Almost 4,000 for the front bumper, 1,200 for the light assembly, etc. Almost 10,000 in parts, plus paint & labor. It looks like it is going thru insurance now. He wanted 85K with the damage. Thanks for all your opinions. |

In my opinion, if the price is cheap enough I would buy the car. After working extensively on my TR I'm not at all afraid to tear into another one. If no major frame damage, just panels, no big deal to install mechanically. The paintwork is the real big expense. The major service can be done by the owner for about $1,500 in parts. Is there a ballpark price in mind? If so, I'd be interested - maybe email me privately if this is a sensitive issue. |

If it is the car I am thinking off I would not consider it unless you get it for $ 10,000, engine value! The car needs much more than what the seller is stating.

This sounds like a "cheap owner" and that means there is probably all kinds of other stuff that has not been repaired or maintained as well....I would not purchase this car. |

My question is, as Dave has elided to, why wouldn't the owner fix it through an insurance claim? |

Take it to a good body shop and get an estimate. Sounds like a few grand and no big deal unless you want a 'like new' car. I have seen guys rebuild cars that are in major wrecks that look like new and save quite a few bucks in the process...in fact, the only way they would get into a Ferrari. Now, if they want $75K, then go find one with only a few thousand miles and not a stone chip on it. NP. Good luck. |

The owner passed on doing expensive repairs. Were I a potential buyer, for reasons cited by Ferrari veterans, so would I. Once the owner sells this to whomever is willing to put perhaps another half the purchase amount into repairs and tune-ups, he can say "SEP: Somebody Else's Problem." When all is said and done, no matter how much is spent, the car will still be worth less because of the accident. |

Buying a damaged car is always a risk. Is it from the actual owner that crashed it? Or broker? Or from "Habib's House of Wrecks So Minor You Won't Believe, My Friend" Ferrari, and any exotic, is wrought with thieves and dirtbags. You better be smart, because the better the deal, the bigger the lie. I've been there. Stories abound. And a PPI does not guarantee quality. You're pretty smart? Better be REAL smart. I have bought one car that was a pain the the ass. Never again. Your first Ferrari should be one that you feel good in every time you see it. TR's are so cheap now, you can get a prime example for cheap.

First, if it drives consider a purchase, else it could get very expensive. A PPI on the mechanicals is a must...$500 A quality body shop can laser measure the frame to ascertain if it is a minor collision...$500 If bent frame...(I'd pass)...maybe $5K. Cost of new fender, bumper professional install and paint ...maybe $7K - $15K? A major/ major service (water pump/ hoses +) and some trim pieces...$10K Lastly, fender repaired Ferrari, you tell me co-members, minus 25% of resale value. So depending upon the purchase price... I hope the above adds some food for thought. |

Mike, if the damage were really that minor why wouldn't the owner just fix it? I wonder if it also needs a major service. Just how good of a deal are you getting? a 512tr can be an expensive car to repair. |

Mike, i wish i could give you some sound advice on the repair costs, but i'm at a loss in that department... The only thing i could suggest (which also shows the owner you're serious about purchasing) is a PPI. Bring it to a mechanic independent of both you and the seller and see what s/he says with regard to how much the repairs will be. i believe that's the only accurate way to know for sure. Without pictures, the smart ones here can only assess and assume sans pinpoint cost accuracy. Not sure how you feel about garage queens or if, by "Ferrari standards" this car even counts as one, but 9,000 miles in 10 years is only 900 miles a year, figuring out to something like 2 and a half miles a day... Not sure how good that could be over the course of a decade... Keep watching the board, the 'knowers' will come around and smother you in answers... Good luck and keep us 'posted' (ugh, your first pun to deal with as a member and it sucked).

Hi Des, The 360 was my brothers doing (joker). The rest of the car is mint and not an issue at all. The mileage on the car is 9,000. the year 93. I just want to get an idea of what money is involved as i'm not the only person to look at the car and may have to move rather quickly. Thanks for your help |

Mike, how come in your post you say you may actually become a Ferrari owner but your profile says your "Peronal Ferrari" is a 360...? Are you already a Ferrari owner...? Just wondering... In any case, welcome to the board... Sounds like the TR isn't in such bad shape; you don't have pictures, do you...? How is the rest of the car...? What year, how many miles, does it have all service records and books, etc....? Has it had a 15k/30k is the mileage is that high (hopefully it is)...? Is the owner selling because of the accident or was s/he looking to sell prior...? |

After being a lurker for a long time, looks like i may become an actual ferrari owner. Found this slightly damaged ferrari which needs the following: the front bumper was detached and is off the car, one of the signal light assembly needs to be purchased, and one of the front fenders is slightly dented (repairable). One of my relatives saw the collision and it was very minor, someone changed lanes and clipped the ferrari in front with their back door. It was more like a swipe. Anyone know what $ amount it would take to fix this? We are talking a bumper cover (there is a small tear in it, but should be replaced), the bumper cover reinforcement that attaches to the body, the signal light assembly, some paint and labor. Your help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has a source for these parts let me know. Many, many thanks Mike
