This thread is getting ridiculous. I have read it for several days now, but for someone to say...nuke them all...well, that is at best very irresponsible. I think human life is the greatest gift there is, and killing is very very wrong. I for one must be one who loves peace and goodwill among men. Let's all stop this nonsense and get back to our cars...Ferraris...please... |

Steve, that is certainly an opinion I can't argue with. I think a lot of the people here have that same opinion: only they don't want to admit it and so they say we are doing it for the Iraqis or we're doing it for longterm peace in the region or as some sort of punishment or some other bs. I don't happen to share the need to seek world domination but admire your honesty. |

JH, you must be joking. Do you know who owns the media? Viacom, Disney and General Electric own CBS, ABC and NBC. TimeWarnerAol owns CNN. In radio, there are three corporations that own over 50% of the stations. Gannett and Hearst and the like control lots of newspapers. NewsCorp owns Fox. These are majorly huge multinational corporations - not a bunch of hippies. |

Todd: The reason they hated Clinton is that he was a moderate repub in disguish. Sh*t if I'd know what he was in 92, I wouldn't have voted for him he was far to conservate for me. Turned into a pretty decent President however, no matter what the repubs claim, they can't change history: good economics, few wars, great social justice, etc. Art |

"Dont forget who started this war. Its been going on over 2000 years before the Jews left Egypt." There is no actual evidence that large numbers of jews were ever in Egypt. Nor is there any evidence that a large number of people wandered around in Sinai for 40 years. |

I'd say there wasn't any big problem that couldn't have been easily handled until Dubya showed up: THEN "The dictator of Iraq is not disarming. To the contrary; he is deceiving. From intelligence sources we know, for instance, that thousands of Iraqi security personnel are at work hiding documents and materials from the UN inspectors, sanitizing inspection sites and monitoring the inspectors themselves." -George W. Bush's state of the union address, Jan. 28, 2003 NOW "Here we are in June of 2003. Show me the weapons; where are they? What evidence did this administration have to spend $63 billion in taxpayers' money? What evidence did this administration have to put the lives of American servicewomen and men on the line?" -U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich, June 5, 2003 THEN "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." -George W. Bush, January 28, 2003 NOW Washington admits the claim was false. An unnamed CIA official - who was sent to Niger to investigate the matter - says it's highly doubtful the alleged transaction ever took place. Further, he says Vice-President Cheney's office was notified of the finding prior to Bush's state of the union message. Nonetheless, Bush's speech went ahead and the president was not notified of the development until February 2003. With many wondering why it took five months for Washington to own up to the false claim, members of Bush's Republican party have maintained the decision to go to war in Iraq was morally right. "This is a very important admission," said Tom Daschle, Democratic leader in the Senate on July 8, 2003. "It's a recognition that we were provided with faulty information. And I think it's all the more reason why a full investigation of all the facts surrounding this situation be undertaken." THEN "There is already a mountain of evidence that Saddam Hussein is gathering weapons for the purpose of using them. And adding additional information is like adding a foot to Mount Everest." -Ari Fleischer, White House spokesperson, Sept. 6, 2002 NOW "Iraq's the size of the state of California. It's got tunnels, caves, all kinds of complexes." -George W. Bush, saying it may take a while, but the U.S. will eventually locate an arsenal of weapons that Washington suspects is there. May 3, 2003 THEN "It's going to take time to find them, but we know he had them. And whether he destroyed them, moved them or hid them, we're going to find out the truth. One thing is for certain: Saddam Hussein no longer threatens America with weapons of mass destruction." -George W. Bush, speaking at a weapons factory in Ohio, April 25, 2003 NOW "There is a long list of items unaccounted for, but it is not justified to jump to the conclusion that something exists, just because it is unaccounted for." -UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix, in his final report on weapons inspections in Iraq, June 5, 2003 THEN Baghdad builds and hides "an arsenal for conquest and mass murder." -George W. Bush, March 8, 2003 "British forces have made significant discoveries in recent days which show categorically that Iraqi troops are prepared for the use of such horrific weapons," -British Secretary of State for Defence Geoff Hoon telling reporters in London that British troops uncovered a cache of more than 100 chemical warfare suits in Iraq, March 27, 2003 NOW "Coalition forces have uncovered the strongest evidence to date that Iraq was hiding a biological warfare program. Kurdish forces in late April 2003 took into custody a specialized tractor-trailer near Mosul and subsequently turned it over to U.S. military control. The U.S. military discovered a second mobile facility equipped to produce BW agent in early May at the al-Kindi Research, Testing, Development, and Engineering facility in Mosul. Although this second trailer appears to have been looted, the remaining equipment, including the fermentor, is in a configuration similar to the first plant. U.S. forces in late April also discovered a mobile laboratory truck in Baghdad. The truck is a toxicology laboratory from the 1980s that could be used to support BW or legitimate research." -CIA report, May 28, 2003 (Later CIA tests of one of the trailers came up "negative for five standard (biological warfare) agents, including Bacillus anthracis, and for growth media for those agents.") ================================ "...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." (Hermann Goering, 18 April, 1946) |

Eric, Dont forget who started this war. Its been going on over 2000 years before the Jews left Egypt. Many countries have been involved on both sides since then. This war will continue until the end of time regardless of who is in the white house dem or rep. If and when there is peace in these countries you had better put your head between your legs and kiss youre a$$ goodbye, because the end is close. The one man who can bring peace between these two factions will be responsible for killing more people during his term than all the 20th century monsters combined (Stalin, Hitler, Mengula Saddam). Remember the first casualty of war is the truth, no mater who starts it. JH

Only history and the courts will tell excatly how much of Bush N Blairs pro war arguments were lies, In the Uk at the moment an inquirey is under way into the case for invading Iraq (actualy its a case into the death of a senior government official who leaked to the press how much of blairs case was S*it (most of it!)) I'd say the only thing Bush has managed to achieve is make Al Qaeda, that never had any Iraq connections, one heck of a lot more popular because of his nonsensical war against Iraq that was based on absolutely nothing but propaganda and lies, and that will backfire on us as surely as night follows day.

Clinton, is, was, and will always be full of . Everytime he speaks, no matter what the topic, he's full of it. Bush, and his cabinet talk a lot of smack, but at least his interest is in safety of the country, and not in getting his d--- sucked. I don't agree with eveything that Bush has done, but there are a lot of things that Clinton didn't deal with that we are paying for now. His whole politically correct era, f---ed us. Especially with the Saudi's. |

Well, of course, a war based on blatant lies and, most of all, Weapons of Mass Disappearance, LOL. Remember all the war mongering by Dubya, about the HUGE and IMMINENT threat Saddam allegedly posed? "TIME Jun. 9, 2003 Weapons Of Mass Disappearance The war in Iraq was based largely on intelligence about banned arms that still haven't been found. Was America's spy craft wrong or manipulated? By MICHAEL DUFFY How do take your country to war when it doesn't really want to go? You could subcontract with another nation, fight on the sly and hope no one notices. But if you need a lot of troops to prevail and you would like to remind everyone in the neighborhood who's boss anyway, then what you need most is a good reason something to stir up the folks back home. As the U.S. prepared to go to war in Iraq last winter, the most compelling reason advanced by George W. Bush to justify a new kind of pre-emptive war was that Saddam Hussein possessed nuclear, chemical and biological arms weapons... Plus, Jhaller, one shouldn't forget that the USA really doesn't have much of a free press, just witness the way most of the so-called free press in the US were just acting as the broadcasting arm of Dubyas propaganda lies, which is probably also the reason why the US population was pretty much alone in the whole wide world in believing Bush's lies and deceptions. |

At least the muslim extremists call it like it is...a holy war...face the facts buddy...this is what we are fighting. You can talk all the WMD stuff you want..this is a challenge on our American way of life and quite frankly I thank my lucky stars (as you too should) that we have a HAWK in the oval office..'cause if we had Gore we'd be dealing with those panzies at the UN for every little international fart and be putting all of our problems in a "lock-box"

To answer the original question, (even though I consider myself a Libertarian, and fault the Republicans for now spending like Democrats) I'll probably vote Republican because they still place some value/expectation on "personal responsibility" -- as far as I can tell, the Democrats only value/expect "government responsibility" (and really have no plan other than being anti-Republican). PS Why does everyone forget about the 1994 US Congress when trying to claim credit for the 90's economic boom -- no US President had anything to do with it... |

Eric Keep in mind most of the media today is owned by the 60s rejects that just want peace and love to eat their homemade granola in. Many of them wanted to change the world, by challenging authority, rather than making a contribution. Keep in mind where their slant comes from when you read these left leaning articles. In their time as college students, they realized the power of the pen and seized power of the US media. JH

It now seems that the speedy arrest and detention of a group of home and office air-conditioning units by the US authorities was premature..to say the least.. Rumours circulating the market seem to indicate that: The FBI has just arrested a bunch of air-conditioners........ They are believed to part of a wider network of air-conditioners operating inside the borders of the United States........ These captured air-conditioners are currently being interrogated by officers of the Department of Homeland Security.........who are presently applying electricity to their 'droopy bits' to see if they can glean some additional information...... or they would be applying electricity...........but for some reason the power has been disconnected......... Or remember that great movie classic, Wag the Dog ? Check this out: EDITORIAL DESK | May 30, 2003, Friday Waggy Dog Stories By PAUL KRUGMAN (NYT) 744 words Late Edition - Final , Section A , Page 27 , Column 1 ABSTRACT - Paul Krugman Op-Ed column says Iraq war was justified to public by links between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda and by Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction, but no Qaeda link has ever surfaced and no such weapons have been found; says failure to find weapons has been described as 'intelligence failure,' but this ignores fact that intense pressure was placed on intelligence agencies to tell Bush and Blair administrations what they wanted to hear, resulting in 'cooked intelligence'; says it is also now clear that Pres Bush had no intention of reaching diplomatic solution; draws comparison with plot of 1997 movie Wag the Dog (M) http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F50E16FF3D540C738FDDAC0894DB404482 |
