Kjell, that's a good looking car. I love the looks of those Fiat engines.

Will pull the engine out and the tranny use it for display and part out the rest of the car.

Martin, how are you gonna fix that engine? Got the missing parts? Or are you just buying the thing for spares?

La Belle Macchine D'Italia had a gorgeous Fiat Dino, just bought from the guy who owns Griot's garage. Engine is identical to the Ferari Dino but detuned to 180bhp (vs. 195 for the F-car).

These engines were built by Fiat for homologation purposes (Ferrari needed 500 to go racing in Formula 2, and the entire plant was only producing 600-700 cars per year, and he needed them quickly), but the design is a Ferrari design (specifically Vittorio Jano's-probably Ferrari's most talented engine designer). In the early 60's the same engine (built by Ferrari) was used for F-2 racing and for some very successful sportsracers.

What many don't know is that the engines were assembled at Ferrari's factory at Maranello, not at Fiat. So who cares if my dino's block is stamped "fiat". It is a Ferrari design, assembled by Ferrari, in a Ferrari body, and runs and sounds as a Ferrari should. This engine is bulletproof and extemely durable if correctly maintained. Can't say that about some of the Ferraris that succeeded the Dino.

I happen to think that the Fiat Dino, in spider form is a very attractive car. The main problem with it is that it costs as much as a Ferrari Dino to repair, but is only worth about 20-25% of a Ferrari Dino. That's why you don't see that many of them around. Rebuild costs on the engine and tranny alone can cost more than the car is worth. forget body/rust repairs.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this car has the 206 engine. All aluminum, as opposed to the iron block found in the 246 and the later Fiat Dino's.

I think the 1969 Fiat Dino's had the 246 engine.

Personally, I hate the look of the Fiat Coupe, but I live the Fiat Dino Spider that they made. Now that is a beautiful car.

WIth regard to value, I think these are worth somewhere between $5000-$10000 in good condition. The Fiat Dino Spiders are closer to the $20000-30000 range.

As i'm sure most of you will know the Mafia in The Italian Job (the proper one not the S**te remake) drove a couple of Dino coupes,

"Pretty interesting that this was essentially the same car as the 246. With all the 246 kits out there, I'm surprised no one has used the Fiat Dino as the basis for a 246 re-body."

Wait a minute: The Fiat has the engine in front, the 246 in the middle, so how would that work?

Yeah, I wasn't really looking to buy it myself, but I've never heard of this car before. I have no idea about it's worth/how much it would cost for the engine work/etc. :-)

Fiat Dino's were offered with the 246 and 206 engines. Somebody on this site has a Fiat Dino (can't remember who???).

I think the spiders are much more attractive but the interiors on both could be a lot nicer. They are probably typical for a lower priced Italian car of the day. Could be a fun car but any major mechanical work will cost more than the car is worth. I would look for one that has already had the money spent on it unless you want the parts only.

The engine is toast if you read the details. I wondered how they came to 70 million miles. They must have taken it abord space station MIR and left there for several years.

According to the auction its done 70,000,000 miles so I wouldn't touch it. Apparently the engines aren't much good after 30 million miles ;-)

It's a Fiat Dino. It has the same engine as the Dino 246 in a different body. FYI, Fiat made the engines for the Dino 206 and 246 too. There is not a Ferrari marking on the engine of any of the Dino V6s ANYWHERE. The cam covers are stamped Dino and the block is stamped Fiat. But, if you follow the logic of some on FC, it is a Ferrari with a Fiat and Dino badge affixed. So all you have to do is remove the Fiat and Dino badges and affix a Ferrari badge and wa-la, you then have a FERRARI.

In order to homologate the Dino engine for racing, they had to make a certain number. Those were put into these Fiats. So a real Fiat car with a real Ferrari engine. Unfortunately in this example the engine is toast.

Running Fiats with Ferrari engines are really nice, so somebody might snatch this one up for spare parts.

Anyone else see this eBay auction? The engine says Dino, the auction says it's a "Fiat Dino Coupe, know as 'The Other Dino', 5sp, 6cy Ferrari engine with Dual Exhaust."

Seems like an interesting car, but I've never heard of it or seen one. Can anyone help out with info on this?

It might be a good deal for someone...
