Ben- I am glad to hear everyone was OK! As with Eric, I am glad this happened at CI, with a larger than normal proportion of doctors in the house! Give Mike my regards and prayers for a speedy and full recovery. Best! Ben. |

Ben, Much thanks to you and Dennis in time of need. In short, Mike is doing fine now. The Seaside FD and the Community Hospital in Pebble Beach were all top notch. Mike was released, I drove him home, Mike appears to be ok but only time will tell if his seizure affected anything further. Good thing is Mike had his seizure smack dab in the middle of the CI area on our way to the Pantera Lambo area, bad thing is we didn't get to see the display. After Mike was in the Hospital he asked if we should go back and look at the display before going home....obviously no chance of that happening. Funny ancedote, looking back when Mike just started his seizure before I could yell out "IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE!!!" There was a Dr. right behind me accompanied by two nurses from his private practice. From what they did with Mike until the FD got on the scene it looked like they were not of the plastic surgury practice so I felt ok, besides at CI I'm sure there were tons of Drs. in the house. If something was going to happen, might as well happen at CI. Anyway, I'll let Ben get on with his tale, but let me tell you it's great to have friends you trust and can count on in time of need....Ben and Dennis are of such caliber and I had no hesitation in trusting them with a Ferrari to get it back 100 miles to home base. One final funny scene on trying to get out when the CI was still in swing was trying to explain to a group of Aussies, and then again a group of college aged boys, that I couldn't stop to have them take a picture with my car because of an emergency....wow I got some stink eye I when I declined to stop the car. I guess I must have looked like a snob, oh well this time was really an exception. All in all, CI was a great time. Eric |

The Road Home from CI-03. A TR Owner drives a 348, because thats what friends do. The Players: Mike- Owner of a (91) Rosso Corsa 348ts (drove solo to CI) Eric Owner of a (93?) Grigio 512tr (drove solo to CI), matches my car! Dennis My best pal and fellow car nut (generally my Navigator for car events) Ben (me) Owner of a (90) Grigio Testarossa Mike is a close friend of Eric. I know them both, but am far less acquainted with Mike (if that makes any sense). The Scene: Concorso Italiano 2003 The Ferrari Fairway, a completely hodge-podge mixture of Ferraris parked in such a way that (almost) no one could leave. A California Azzuro 360 Modena Berlinetta/Coupe was parked so close behind me (making a T with my car) that although he could open his door and exit without too much trouble, I could NOT bear to start my car all day for fear that the flames that shoot from my exhaust upon initial startup - would have EASILY removed the paint from his driver door. Thankfully he left before I did. Preface: Ill leave out the details of a majority of the day, suffice to say other than some minor things the day was GREAT. Im off wandering around the grounds, saying hi to folks I havent seen in ages from all over (including Nick of Forza Ferrari fame), taking, pics and schmoozing. Dennis is by my car talking to the tourists and generally answering questions (I was one of the few Ferraris with the engine cover open, allowing people to sit in the car, take pics inside etc.) Part One: My communication device rings with the msg: return to base. This instantly tells me there is trouble. Im thinking someone scratched, dented, or otherwise damaged someones or my car.Dennis tells me to go talk to Eric, NOW. Here we are in a sea of Red, two Grigio Testarossa (family) cars with about 5 cars between them. I locate Eric to hear the news. Turns out that Mike had a stroke/seizure/something where by he collapsed, on the lawn at CI just a few minutes earlier. Several Lotus owners I know saw him fall including one that owns an Ambulance Co (certified rescue professional not just owner!) and immediately rushed to his aide. Mike was immediately taken from Black Horse Golf Course by ambulance to the local hospital. Eric and he both came to CI solo. Eric wants to leave (soon) to check on Mike at the hospital and hopes to be able to take him home after hes been looked at there. Eric asks me if I can take Mike 348ts home to Redwood City, kind of the least I can do given the situation. And he hands me the keys. As it is not very hot (thinking heat stroke), I ask if we know what brought this on from Mike, apparently his happened once before to him ~1 year ago, they say he just has some wiring wrong in his brain. Thank goodness it didnt happen while he was driving! Soon after, as cars finally start moving off the lawn, Eric makes his way out to the hospital. We (Dennis and I) decide that we want to wait around a bit longer before we head home, I will drive Mike 348ts, Dennis will drive my TR back, as he has driven it before. Stay Tuned for Part Two The Drive And before everyone asks, Mike is shaken, but ok. |
