What in the world would anyone want with a 79 Mercedes diesel? It is probably one of the slowest cars ever produced. They smoke and stink and any good baby stroller could blow it's doors off. Wait until you see your hands after you tear into the internals too. Diesel oil is like Indian ink. Just a word to the wise from experience.

I might as well start pulling the engine apart, you'll learn soon enough what happened when you get into it. ie It's not gonna be an easy fix, but it can be fixed nevertheless. Hey just look at it that you guys will learn a lot about the car (that's what I always tell myself when I work on the 308).

Timing chain/belt broke, pistons crash into valves, valves bend/break and can no longer make any seal whatsoever = no compression

Obviously the crank is not turning.

Quick general question. A guy is selling a 79 Mercedes Diesel and he states that the car made a terrible noise then stopped running. He indicates that there is "0" compression on all cylinders. What possible causes would indicate 0 Compression? I am a Ferrari owner and I am asking this for a friend since I know I'll get several answers from all the motorheads!!
Thanks
Mike
