Don W. -- multi-piston, fixed-caliper brakes (which all F's use) are notorious for making noise. My TR even has the "shims" mentioned by Rick R. as part of the stock setup, and it still squeaked unacceptably (without goop) IMHO. See: http://209.196.179.161/discus/messages/112/795.html? for previous discussion. I'm going to try the EBC greenstuff pads next, and Ben L. mentioned to me that he might try the Porterfield R4s pads. Ben also had a lot of comments from the FList, but there wasn't any clear choice for a sure-fire noiseless pad. |

Don, My company manufactures brake pads so i know a little bit about your problem. Try getting a thing called a shim which gets mounted on the back of your brake pads. this will cut down on almost 80% of your noise problem and should not cost you more than $8-$10.00 . I have a F355 with pads making noise. the shim should take care of your problems. |

new pads? what kind of pads? also there are a few products you can apply for anti-squeak types of behaviour. They are not perfect but they do help for the most part. Suggestions would be to try out a high temp caliper grease or spray can lube that is good up to a certain temperature tolerance. (or else it will just roll right off) |

The brakes on my 348 squeel (well, actually they scream) when the car is cold. Once they warm up a bit the noise goes away. I had the dealer check them out and they said there is nothing wrong. I park in a parking garage at work and heading home at night the noise is so intense it's embarassing! I've owned a number of cars with disk brakes and all sorts of brake pad material and I've never had this issue before. Is this noise common? Is there a brake pad that is good for non-track use that doesn't have this problem? Thanks --Don |
