Mitch, I'm not sure about this car that did the low 1/4 mile and it really surprised me due to the fact I couldn't get my car to do that and I just heard that he wasn't using NOS so I'm curious myself on what the heck is in that car. My car can run all day without the worries of needing cooling down but if you track at high speeds in your Ferrari you will need to upgrade your cooling system IF you run it real hard like the challege cars and Ferrari motors do get real hot. If you do just light track racing then you won't need it. I personally like the Ferrari better on a high speed track but on a trial course I like how zippy the S2k is. Phillip, the car has almost 13k into it without labor costs and it's not hard to do the work yourself since it's mostly bolt on. There are guys out there that have equally almost as much as what they paid for their car, now to me that's going to far as I bought the car for the purpose of fun and not to go to crazy and I will be doing the work on my own especially with some fabrication work. Now listen some of you fellas, don't think that I'm hyping up the S2k over the Ferrari as I really could care less, I like lots of different cars and not just a particular brand name. Off to next program, no more Ferrari vs. Honda vs. the world, bla bla, I don't care.

"I seen a local S2k do 12.2 at the strip without NOS so that right there will tell you the power to weight ratio should do it very easily."

Question: how many laps at TWS (2.9 mile course) would this package run before having to come in and cool off? 5 minutes is my guess. A 360 can run until the gas tank goes dry even in the heat of Texas summer.

ModMan...........about how much money do you have in the S2K..........also, if you do a bunch of the work yourself, how much would it cost a "normal" guy just to pay somebody to do it all?

I'm just wondering, because it does look awesome, and technoligically advanced.......but it also looks really expensive.

Todd, yes it is very easy to put the Tubi on the 348, you can do it very easily as long as the rusted bolts come off easily. Just lube the nuts before loosening them. Keith, when I saw an S2k do 12's I was very surprised as I've seen most of them in the low 13's and this car had no NOS but I have no idea what was exactly done to the car. The rear end will need beefing up if you are launching it and Comptech does that. I do agree the car is not made for launching and it does not do a good job at it anyway and plus you need a good pair of slicks otherwise the car bogs or you'll loose traction at lauch. I plan to do some more work on the S2k to see the difference I am looking for and see what happens then, to be honest, I'm not too happy with the Comptech set up so there will be some changes made but we'll see then. Also since the S2k is lighter and narrow compared to the Ferrari of course it will not feel as stable at high speeds.

I apologize once again for posting the pic, I agree it is in bad taste and was poor judgment on my part to post it in a public forum. As I mentioned the the intent was to poke fun at this Honda thread not at the mentally challanged. I will ask Rob to remove it.

spending lots of cash to let spoon build my motor, putting in a feels ecu (non-programmable) that is made for a stock engine with some feels components on a spoon built, comptech SC is not what i look forward to. if i wanted an aftermarket ecu, i would go with AEM or GREDDY that lets me adjust it for what i have installed.

i have an aftermarket header and dual exhaust, i do not like single exhaust sound or price for the 20 lbs it would save over what i have.

my best time was 13.51 at 107.1 with stock drivetrain the one time i went to a 1/4 track with a friend who is into that. btw, he has a TC s2k with a recently built engine from 1st time at track when he blew the motor, and a new rear end from that time at the track where he dumped the clucth and blew up the stock unit. getting a 12.2 with an s2k proably means clutch, flywheel, 4.44, more likely 4.77 final drive, slicks, etc. i have seen several people talking about 12's in an s2k, but they never seem to be able to back it up with time slips, most only calculate what it should achieve based on max hp ratings....

as i said, i drive on the street and have taken the s2k to road courses, 1st track session for the 360 is next month with FOW/FCA event at summit point. i do not think the s2000 or any ferrari is made for 1/4 mile racing.

i have another friend who has jumped into the race only mode, also has comptech SC but has gone with upgraded drivetrain, suspension, stripped out all non-essentials like 2d seat, air conditioning, carpetting, dash, fuel tank swap with fuel cell, etc. in attempts to make it as light as possible.

sure, with al the mods it is fasterthan a stock s2k, but the feel of driving the two type of cars is not the same. at 135 in the honda, i start to worry about whether the car is going to stay planted or not, with the ferrari, i worry about when the road is going to end.

Keith, put a Spooned out motor in it with the aftercooler, a Feels computer, a single titanium muffler instead of the heavy dual setup, you should see a much different result. Just the Comptech setup is so mild to my taste but set up right you should see and feel a different result at the track. I'm far from done with mine and decided to go further into this thing and yes it will eat 360's. There is so much you can do to this car that most people will not no of, I seen a local S2k do 12.2 at the strip without NOS so that right there will tell you the power to weight ratio should do it very easily. Just the Comptech supercharger won't beat a 360 even with the smaller pulley but will beat a 348. I don't want to reveal to much of what I'm doing to the S2k because that's what all the S2k owners want to know and some parts will be custom made for improved performance. I'll reveal it later down the road, Comptech will wish they had thought of my idea, I live only 30 mins. away from there and know some of the people who work there and when I visit them I learn a few things on what's going on. Oh and I like the fact the S2k motor uses a timing chain instead of a belt.

have both, different characteristics altogether.

modman, my s2k has a comptech SC like yours has, with smaller pulley, headers, exhaust, brake kits, etc., and there is no way i could keep up with the 360. have tried many times at the track against other 360's, and result is always the same, the 360 walks away.

have had my 360 for a month now, have to find reasons not to take it on short trips, like to the store for groceries, because it feels so good driving it.

the s2k is my daily driver and is no slouch in performance for its engine size and cost, but is a long way from being close to a modern ferrari.

stock performance numbers for it are closer to the 328 series, with the supercharger we can hold our own against 348's, and 355's when the driver is a little laid back.

Hey MODMAN, nice garage you got there!! :-) (especially the modded S
What will be your next F-car?... 360 CS maybe?
At least someone gets the point!
Both are very different cars, but for pure driving the S gets pretty close! Name me one car that comes closer!! And don't start again with something like an Alfa GTV V6.... IT'S FRONTWHEELDRIVE YOU KNOW!! My former car was a Fiat Coup Turbo, a very good FWD sporty car, better than the Alfa gtv, but it comes miles behind the S for everything that concerns driving!!
But i know what you guys mean with the difference between driving both, it's something you can't explain actually! There's something emotional about Ferraris that you cannot find in any other car, no matter how good and fast they are!

So i agree with Modman and Rob: you need both !! :-)

Definately there is no comparison as they both have different driving characteristics. What I like on the Ferrari is the looks, sound, & handling in high speeds. The S2k is better in auto cross type set ups where a car needs to be nimble, very reliable, easily tossable, fastest motorized convertible top I've ever seen and everything from the climate control to the power features all work at peak performances and very fast. I have mine set up very well and yes it is very capable of eating up 360's due to it's power to weight ratio ( of course mine is not stock and the pictures are old and I did upgrade to Spoon brakes) But yes the bottom line is you cannot compare it to a Ferrari as a Ferrari is a different breed of driving characteristic. I agree with Rob McNair as if you truly like all types of racing at least these 2 are a must have.UploadUpload

Hey, i own an S2000 and i have driven some Ferraris in the past (NOT MINE UNFORTUNATELY!!!)
And i must say that the S is nothing like any Ferrari EXCEPT for the pure drivingpleasure which is huge!
It's not as fast as a 360 for example, neither is it as beautiful! Nothing can match the italian style for me! (I had a Coup Fiat Turbo before!)
But if you don't have the cash yet but if you want a really fun car to drive then the S2000 is 'the car' to buy i think!

And you guys want to know why i sold my Fiat and bought the 'japanese' Honda?..
The S doesn't brake down like any italian car does!! ;)

Don't get me wrong, my dream car at the moment is a 360 challenge stradale and one day i will buy one of these!! :-)

My brother-in-law has an S... nice sportscar... not Ferrari-like, but a definitely a fun car... and its not exactly cheap either... there are a number of other cars in the same price range that are definitely comparable to each other. So, I don't think I would say "the absolute closest thing to a Ferrari for the money" is particularly accurate.

I'm not sure I see the relevance of this comparison. The Honda S2000 is an excellent car and can stand on its own. The Ferrari is also an excellent car and can stand on its own. These are two completely different cars for different purposes, and (usually) different buyers.

Comparing the two seems pointless...that would be like me saying "I'm a mini-Long Dong Silver"... I don't need to because what I've got's good enough for the Mrs. :-)

I say - drive what you like. Period.

I'm looking at this from a different angle than most of you, so I'll give my opinion. I'm a 21 year old college Sr, and when I graduate in 8 months, the S2000 will almost certainly be the car that gets my money.

I've never driven a Ferrari, but I do know why I love them. Ferrari's are EXCITING to drive. They get your adrenaline flowing, and they make you feel better than you actually are.

I can assure you (again, I have no Ferrari-driving experience to compare this to), the S2000 is a VERY exciting car to drive, and its exceptionally good balance and nimbleness inspire confidence.

I am not going to even PRETEND that I think the S2000 is as exciting as a Ferrari -- but given the excitement factor -- I can see how some would draw a connection.

No comparison is on the mark. Honda builds a sportscar with 120hp per litre, revs to 9k and doesn't require a $5k belt change every 15k miles.
That said, I own and love my 348 spider. I just don't sell the Honda short.

Nope. My sister just got a S2000. It's not a mini ferrari. I've got a 348 and can attest to that! :-) However, it's not to say that the S2000's aren't quick cars that perform well on the track! (I've had a few highly modded S2k's ride my A$$ on the track recently! LOL)

If anything, the NSX is a closer match, but then again, the engines are vastly different... I used to have a NSX and to compare the two would be apples and oranges.
