Thanks everyone for the info.

I decided to pass on this one.

From your info, I know that whatever one I end up with, I will be more happy with it since it will be a more informed choice.

Thanks,

If deal falls apart it is because the bidder took that decision. My intention was just to advise the bidder on how problematic this business can become.
Nobody can forbid me to write an e-mail to anyone and explain my thoughts. At least this happens in my country and I think it should happen in all the democratic countries.
If ebay ban me in the future and if they have that right, I will assume all the consequences.
But anyway I am sure I made what I thought it was right.

People who do business on ebay (like myself) are always at a risk, doesn't matter if you buy or sell. But ebay also has it's rules. How do you know that this is the car. The people selling it seem to disclose the information a potential buyer needs - I would be careful sending information to bidders, what happens if the deal falls apart and the bidder tells ebay it was because of your email? Potential problems!

I feel sorry for the person who is going to buy it.
Anyway I sent the higher bidder an email and sent the photo. I think I made it right. Didn´t I?

Quick glance at the pics shows the car is very "QUEER" Better off to buy one with light damage and do the work yourself. Then you know what you got. This is a "Toy Store Queen " to the max. And if you learn the market and have time TR parts can be gotten at a bargain. Engine, frame & interior are big bucks

major service on an otherwise perfect car is going to run $10-15K, on this car u have to add to that, tires, paint, & God knows what else. So u could b into it for $65k in a big hurry & maybe a lot more
My mechanic told me that in the 80s a lot of cocaine cowboys bought ferraris & abused them or neglected them

I feel scared about this car.
I would never buy a car on ebay, God knows why.
In my opinion, you can buy a nice TR with full service history for less than you would pay in ebay + big service + cosmetics it does need + tyres
My sincere advise is "Be very carefull!"

Beware..Any TR with damage with a quick sell price is probably going to eat up your kids collage fund. Have the car fully inspected by a dealer. A car like this with rear end damage may not ride the same & who knows what else could go wrong. Thats a risk that I wouldn't take. I'll pass.

Dave I don't know if you are a player for the car or you are just asking the question, but on Ebay, I don't think you have the option of having a Mech. check it simply because of the time limit on the bidding. About all you can do is a quick paper trail check and I certainly would do that. Be careful.

It does not sound too bad although they don't say anything about maintenance and service records. If a major is due, the car is not very interesting. And, parts are extremly expensive! Make sure you have all the costs before you bid.

I think this is a great deal. If you can buy at the current price of $ 35K you will get a great car for little money and if you are not planning on selling, you will enjoy the car a lot. If you register in Georgia or even Florida (I think) you will be able to fiy that title. However, the salvage will show up in a carfax, so no need to hide it anyway.
If you don't mid an accident and the car was fixed decent just go ahead. Wish I could right now, I would be trying myself to get the car.

I have an 88TR, previously owned a Euro 308GTBi.
The biggest cost difference I've noticed between the two is the price of the parts. While 308 parts are expensive, TR parts are oh-my-god expensive even for seemingly simple items. A car like that with dubious history can go from bargain to nightmare faster than 0-60.

In some states salvage titles can b difficult to register & also to sell. If its in good shape & u intend to NEVER sell it, then OK

If u could have a mechanic inspect the car & frame for damage & quality of repair work, It could b a very good deal. if the mechanic says no, Run Away

Because repairs to bring it up to a livable standard could easily exceed the purchase price. I had a 1986 TR. Take my advice, pass on any TR unless it is in excellant condition with a documented service history.

What are the disadvantages of buying a car like this:
