I'll echo Craig's (CraigFL) question. How do you size these things? How many lbs are necessary? |

I would be interested in the size of your bottle 2,3,5,10 or 20lb? What kind of activation are you using? Approx cost? Thanks |

FYI, the soda is corrosive, and eats paint quickly so in addition to the fire damage you will have another thing to fix. Most fires in Ferrari's tend to be Cat fires. Halon works much more effectively than Halatron, and it's still very readily available, just a bit pricey. When using Halon to fight the fire remember that Halon is heavier than air so aim for above the flames letting the Halon sink. There are portable and fixed mounted systems...I have a custom made one from http://www.safecraft.com actually it's the one pictured on their website with the red head and red bracket. More info if you want it.... -Ben |

Rob -- As an alternative to making your own Fire Ext. Mount, you might consider contacting Brey-Krause (http://www.bkauto.com). I had purchased one of the 2.5 lb Halon extinguishers (from OG Racing via that special RennList offer) and looked into adapting an existing B-K Porsche or Corvette Ext. Mount to my Testarossa. Unfortunately, nothing could really be adapted easily, but B-K expressed an interested in developing something specifically for TRs so I made some sketches and they developed a very nice steel front-of-seat mount (and graciously allowed me to keep the prototype -- I'll post a picture this PM). Wasn't any less work than making my own (just different work) and it took 2~3 months start-to-finish. Anyway just wanted to suggest that you explore what might be possible via Brey-Krause (either modifing an existing mount or developing something specifically for 308/328). |

go to the faq section for the nw region ferrari club. I am pretty sure there is an article about setting up a fire extinguisher by building a bracket that attaches to the seat rails. http://www.ferrariclub.com/ |

I would like a halatron extinguisher, but like Craig, I don't want to put it in the back. I know I've seen an article or post that recommended a way to securely keep it in the cab. I know you don't want to put it on the roof beam, that would be a big bullet flying around the cab in an accident. |

If you really want to do it right(and spend a few more dollars) you can get a setup like the racecars with a big red button in the car(or heat actuated). I've always worried about storing my extinguisher in the rear area since most fires seem to be from the engine bay. Opening the lid while a fire is in progress may not be the wisest thing to do. |

Halon uses an invisible gas that removes the oxygen from a fire and makes no mess when used when compared with a soda type that makes one heck of a mess. I keep a halatron with me. It is the next generation of halon since Halon is now being phased out like r-12 freon. Halatron does not damage the ozone layer. Ask any fire supply store for it. I do not remember what sise it is, but I will post more about it with some pics.tonight. |

Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone explain the difference between halon fire extinguishers and the "normal" foam/liquid variety? Why is halon thought to be superior? Do many of you carry a fire extinguisher? Where do you keep it? Does anyone know of a good online source for them? I have searched locally without success. I once watched my friend's Grand Cherokee slowly burn up because neither he nor any of the 20 or so other cars that stopped had an extinguisher. This will NOT happen to my Ferrari. |
