There are actually quite a few exotics on Oahu. There are several lambos, including 2 orange, 2 yellow, 1 red and a black Murcielago, several Diablos, including a silver Sv and numerous Ferraris. Other than housing, the cost of living here is not that bad. Nothing to do, nothing to spend money on!

ho cuz, welcome to da islandz baddah.

heh, i bet the locals will love the exotics, talking from experience here. and if i EVER saw an Enzo on Oahu i'd have to change my pants, it's be a total waste of its capabilities on that island. that car is just crazy. there is a brand new yellow Murcielago on Oahu though.

most of the exotics i've seen on maui have been the rentals though. but i wouldn't be surprised if any of the celebrities that live there also have a couple of exotic somethings hidden away.

but i guess ur getting the taste for the high cost of living huh? like most of the kama'aina speaking on this board so far you can pretty much figure it's a nicer place to visit then live, unless you have a bunch of money already. most of the jobs are low paying with a high cost of living.

I lived on Oahu when I was a kid - great place to grow up. I remember the big trauma being the year my school started making us wear shoes to school - fascists.
The other thing I remember was the toll that the salt air took on our cars. Our Mini Coopers were eaten up after 4 years there. The Ferrari stayed on the mainland.

My father kicks himself to this day for not buying land on Maui in the late 60s when the army started selling off the hundreds of acres it had owned since 1941 for civil defense purposes. The thinking then was "who the hell would go to Maui?!" DOH!!

so did you just decide to pick up and move or did you move with a company? you said "if it wasn't for the money" and you speak as if you didn't research moving their prior to arriving "nothing to do but eat and swim"

I was thinking you said F it and packed up and retired on Maui.

I guess I don't know about Hawaii specifically, but what is wrong with a hot climate and beaches everywhere?

Would you rather live in the midwest where you *might* get lucky and have a decent summer for 3 months, then have to deal with snow from november-april, and clouds and rain until june?

Jordan, going to university in Hawaii is the best idea ever. I just graduated from BYU Hawaii (on Oahu) in Spring - best four years of my life...

There's also UH, Hawaii Pacific U, and Chaminade (the latter two being small liberal arts school like mine).

Pat, that is not my yard, it is a lot that was actually just sold to build a house on. That lot alone, sold for nearly 500,000. Insanely expensive.

Honestly guys, everyone says that im soo lucky to be living here, but in reality, if it wasnt for the money, i wouldnt live here. The views are nice, the ocean etc, but other than that, its a nice place to vacation, not to live full time. There is nothing to do here, other than eat and swim.

Duuude!! Tomorrow... I mean it! Tomorrow... at dawn... drive the Road to Hana... with low traffic, you have a racecourse that rivals Nurburgring in form... and rivals any place on earth in beauty. If I live in Maui and have a sportscar of any sort, I'd be on that every third day *at least*. I can't believe you've been there more than two days and haven't done that yet... sheesh... what kinda sportscar enthusiast are you?

Oh, and on the next day, when I am sure you'll do it again, take some pics for the rest of us.

Long time no hear, from hot to humid, what a change but I also wondered if I'd get bored real fast living on an island. I asked some of the people who lived on the island of Oahu and most of them said they get bored of the same ol thing. Hard to say but I love the tropical fishes, I'd have a large aquarium filled full of them and they'd all be from the local waters and that's one of the greatest things I like about Hawaii. All I did when I was there was go to the beach and ate like crazy, gained weight, and passed by tons of ABC stores. I'd like to hear how things go after a few months, have fun...

Allan- my phone is 808-6696678 and I will be in Maui on 10-1 for two weeks. My brother is coming 10-7 and he just bought an 87 Countasch and would love to see your Diablo.
Food- If you like to have a drink or two at dinner (like me) I would be very careful about driving. The cops have NO tolerance and do set up road checks from time to time. From Kaanapali or Kapalua to Wailea or Mama's Fish House is almost an hour drive each way. I also think Mama's Fish House is an over priced tourist trap. Email me and I will give you more info regarding valet parking and really good restaurants. If you get your Hawaii drivers license, there are deals all over. There are a few valet parking places and I will let you know.
Real Estate- Expensive in Kapalua and a little less in Kaanapali. Nothing on the sand at all unless you are Bill Gates. Homes in Kaplua start at $2,000,000 and go up to $10,000,000. Condos start at mid 400's and go above $3,000,000. Kaanapali is less in price, but not much. Welcome to Paradise. I love Maui and Sun Valley, Idaho.

great restaurants, Mama's Fish House is a bit overrated, but my favorite was a restaurant not in the most travelled area of Maui, HaliMali or holymoley, the greatest food on the island, far better than Wolfgang Pucks restaurant in Waileah (not worth the REAL pricey menu- even though the scenery is gorgeous)and great food in Lahaina, and don't forget a drive up to mount HaliAkala.. 10,000 feet high and breathtaking, literally and otherwise. One of the greatest vacations of my life. And please forgive the typos and spelling.

AlLapeter, i was in Maui last summer...and the road to Hana may have been improved to some extent in the southern or lower sections, but still very bumpy with cow barriers etc... and the section through the forest is definitely scary...I would not try any of my Ferraris there...but of course, locals are much more knowledgable than tourists :-(

We ate at Mama's Fishhouse on the way back from Hana. Great view of the beach adn very cool looking place. Food was pricey, but all food was. Good sushi restaurant up in Kehei can't think of name. Also Wolfgang Pucks Spago is up at 4 Seasons it was great. Ruths Chris up in Wailea Shopping Village and Tommy Bahamas.

One of the best places to eat is at the Hyatt. Its called Cascades and is excellent. They also have a fine sushi bar there. Your estimate of prices for a home is a little high. You can buy a huge lot on the beach up from the Royal Lahina for 2M. You could easily get a large older home for 500-750.

I moved to Maui, and your right i need to figure out where i live. All the names sound the same to me. I live in the Kannapalli Estates, where im renting a home till i find something to buy or build. From what ive gathered, a decent home, 3,000 sq ft, will run about 1-1.3 million.

Also Al, where are the good restaraunts here with valet parking? Ones that you can enjoy a nice drive to, and then have the cars taken care of and not dinged up by tourist rent a cars? One ive heard of is Mamas Fishhouse.

Im waiting on the cable guy for the computer as we speak. Hopefully be fully running by today.

Ill post pics of the view from my home, its amazing.

Just curious...what does a place cost in Maui? I know it all depends. Say a condo in Kehei or Wailea vs a real house in the same area. Or a house down in Lahaina or up on a mountain or anywhere......
I know i can't afford any of them, but curious.

There are plenty of exotics here in Hawaii. The local Ferrari dealer here has even sold an Enzo, but I don't know if the car is still in the state. I haven't seen a 288GTO or an F50, but there used to be an F40 at the dealer in the 80's. There are also a pretty good number of Lambos, from the Miura right up to the Murcielago.

I was in Maui back in June and this is making me miss it!!!

There is at least one 308 on Hawaii, and I saw some cool old classics there too: an early 60's Porsche, a 50's (I think) Alfa Romeo, a perfect Karman Ghia (I love those!) and a 50's MG...not exactly exotics but must be a blast in the tropics to tool around in. All these were seen in parking lots, on the roads...and this was on the Big Island. I would think Maui must have some true exotics.

Aloha!

Allan, I live on Oahu. There's a loosely organized monthly track event here, if you ever feel like shipping your cars interisland.

I'll ask some people on Maui for good places to stretch your cars out.

One I can think of off the top of my head is the road up to Haleakala's summit. The force fed car would like the thin air better than the others, I think.

Al, id love to get together. I live in Kappalani, however that is spelled.

Ralph, no Lambo or Ferrari dealer here. There is one in Oahu.

I havent been on the road to Hana yet, but im planning on checking it out. I was hoping there would be a racecourse or something here, but unfortunately not, just dragstrip and some SCCA type events. I havent even had a chance to drive the 355 out here, been driving the Lambo or my Cadi. Was thinking about doing the road to Hana in the 355 with the top down.

Also no pics yet, as im waiting to get cable here. Im on dial up now and it is horrible.

in the middle of the Island as I recall. I hope
you like the Island. It rains all the time.

Des, i dont have your problems with 1:18 cars, although my collection made it here ok also. As for servicing, hopefully the Ferrari wont break, and i know the Diablo will be fine. Those are all rental agencies, and they only have Vettes, 308's, 348 Spider, Vipers, Audi TT's, Boxsters, etc. No 355's or Diablo on Maui. They do have them on the Big Island though.

Oh and Des, hows your Saturn?

Cool! I noticed yesterday someone smashed my 1/18 F40 and didn't bother to tell me. I'll send it in for body work!

Jim, Hawaii has post offices... He can mail the 1:18s to whichever state Hot Wheels directs and have the toys repaired there and sent back... Simple as that...!

Hello boys and girls! Miss me? Well we're safe and sound in Maui, both cars made it fine in enclosed sealed containers. They are the only 355 and Diablo on the island. People fall over themselves when they see the Diablo. Have found some pretty cool winding mountain roads which are loads of fun. There is one 360 Spider here and 2 Lotus Esprits. Not much in the way of cars. How have things been on the Ferrari homefront. See you guys cant stop arguing even when im not around!
