How about a track car? The front right wheel is still okay and so are likely the other 3, just a little dirty. That car is objiously a total loss but I think for $ 3K you can get some things out of it or make something out of it. |

Yes Peter that is the engine. He wants $12K for it which I think is a little too much and $ 2500 per Turbo. Those are brand new though! |

Martin, is this the same engine that is (or was) for sale in the FML "Motori" section? |

The body panels will be warped beyond belief due to the heat. I have seen fire damaged cars repainted and the panels look like the Pacific ocean. |

You can still use some of the body panels. The car does not appear to have been in an accident. The block and most of the engine is likely okay and can be rebuild. So does the tranny. I think it is worth the $ 3500 they have as a reserve. It is a loss though not to rebuild. I was taking to an owner of an F40 that has a engine of his F40 for sale after a fire in his car. Interestingly his car caught fire when one of his wheels broke and come through the body of the car and into the gas tank. He is having the car rebuild right now and found a new engine. |

I was at the shop last week to have my oil changed. I made a comment to the technician that I hear squeeks when riding down the road. He said it was common for Ferrari suspensions to become loose. He also said most Ferrari technicians do not like to tighten them up because the nuts are tough to get to. He proceeded to tighten the suspension. I was amazed how loose all the nuts and bolts associated with the suspensions were. Some were approximately three turns loose. Please check your suspensions often. This the second time during 5000 miles that mine was tightned. I received the major service 5000 miles ago. By the way, the squeeks were coming from the hood bonnet. Dan |

Bret - yes they are suseptable to fire but you left out the #1 reason. Angry women (not trying to be sexist here but most F owner's seem to be men) when they find out how we would rather have the car than them. Ducking for cover (with my tounge in my cheek)! -Ben |

They are prone to catch fire because... - electrical systems are almost comical - the all leak/burn oil, if they aren't now, they will be eventually or were awhile ago. - most have a tendency for leaking gas The inherent designs of many of the systems make them prone to these things (ie gas connections, engine design for oil flow, electrical systems being questionable). You don't know how many times I've looked out the window to make sure that my car wasn't smoldering in the driveway, or though about it catching the house on fire when it's in the garage. And my car for the most part doesn't have these problems because I stay on top of them (last week I torqued down the fuel pump connection because it was starting to leak a little for example). The way they do things in the Ferraris make them require maintenance on things like this, if you avoid it or don't stay on your toes... Even all the maintenance in the world isn't going to make it perfectly safe from things like this, which is why, like Adam said, you definitely need an extinguisher. |
