I both agree and disagree. On the fence about this - not for sure the best approach. Know a person who had a new $40,000 Mercedes spray painted on Capital Hill in SLC. He said the mother was upset that the Judge ordered restritution. There are many good people in this world. However, there are also many sick people. Leaving the car unlocked is good defense for the person who would break glass (has happened to me). However, I am still a little concerned about the person who would spray paint a car. It would not take long for such a person to do a job on the interior of Ferrari with a razor blade costing a few cents. As the Smart (believe that was their name) family found out when their daughter was taken, being in a good neighborhood is not much of a defense these days. The organization I am consulting for has several hundred attempted virus attacks a day. This is not unusual for any large organization these days. Any more thoughts? Thanks! |

Philip, i've followed the same procedure w/328, never problemo either, altho i do live in a smaller city, don't leave it in bad spots, etc., but one has to assume problems can occur anywhere... i always thought i wanted to make it easy for a thief to check out the car rather than make it a 'challenge' to get into; less broken glass that way. |

What's kinda neat about parking my Testarossa is that most people don't know how to open the doors! Philip: That is really good advice, and even ironic. It's almost as if your doing just the opposite of what people say you should do. But it does make sense. I must say I would have an useasy feeling to see signs that someone was in my car. But huge relief that no damage was done. It's fascinating in a twisted sort of way. |

I've lived in DC and LA........had my car broken into twice.....broken windows, broken car locks...all so they could take 20 dollars worth of CD's......Here's what a cop told me 10 years ago, and I've never been broken into since......when you park your car, take everything of value out.........then leave the car unlocked. The theives will open the door, look around and if there is nothing, they'll leave........if not, they'll break a window, look around and still leave. Most people have a removable face stereo nowadays, don't get lazy take it with you.........if someone really wants to steal the whole car, locking your doors isn't gonna matter.......I've come out 3 times in the past 7 years, to see my dome light on, or my seatback pushed forward, I know someone had been in my car, but they didn't damage or take anything...........slight inconveniance not to carry around too much stuff, but definately worth it............. |

Oh yea, respect. You gotta be kiddin me! I've had car key scratches, broken antennas, trim parts broken off, acid poured down inside the windows, valve caps stolen, and last week a tree branch broke off, fell fifty feet and crashed across the roof! I musta done somebody wrong, somewhere! LOL The reason they don't take Ferraris is because there no place to dispose of 'em after they cut 'em up! From the wrong side of town, Speedy |

I remember a story about a truck driver who had a lincoln, a caddy & 2 250 GTOs in the back of his truck. When the truck disappeared the police discovered that the criminal mastermind truck driver had left the 2 GTOs & he stole the Caddy LOL |

Dave I guess there is some honor amounst thieves after all.. If not honor, maybe good taste for the arts.. Chris Sawyer would rip us off but I don't think even he would ever hurt a Ferrari |

in high school some thieves broke into my pontiac grand am to steal my $45 radar detector from service merchandise and about $3 of change in the ash tray. cost me $300 to replace the glass and part of the power window mechanism. how much could they have gotten for that, $20??? i would have left a $100 on my windshield instead... |

i find it hard to believe "respect" had anything to do with worthless thugs who steal radios. i think it's far more likely that it's 10X easier to pawn a chrysler head unit than a ferrari head unit. the fences aren't indiscriminate about what they'll buy! and as for the V1, the crooks were probably just stupid kids who were focused on stereos. my two pennies. mind you, i'ts a lovely theory, and one i'd very much like to subscribe to, but i ain't gonna hold my breath, if you know what i mean. doody. |

This afternoon 2 soft top jeeps were broken into at the University of Utah Research Park. Broad daylight, people around. Apparently all they took was the car stereos. In the same parking lot (but a little more remote) under a tree with the top down was the Mondial t with V-1 in plain sight plus a nice stereo. They left the Mondial alone. Not for sure if they thought it had alarms, but people seem to respect the Ferrari for some reason.
