If this is the same guy from Russo & Steele he told me he bought it for $1.5 mil in 1986. It does only have 1400 miles, but he also told me that he has never done ANYTHING to it. It is 18 years old and he has never so much as changed the oil. Said it didn't need it because of the mileage. He was so pissed that everyone he talked to said the car was only worth $300K tops. He also had a Pantera that he wanted $75k for and he was thinking of selling his 512BBi for $300k. Was a very nice guy, but a little out of touch.:-)

LOL Alex!

What about this plot?

The guy knew nothing about Ferraris and heard of a "special" barnfind Ferrari GTO for 800K$. Dug up some classic car magazines from the 1980's and read that GTO's went as high as $ 10,000,000 and bought it in the blind for 800K$....

He's looking for a similar sucker now...

1.1 Million euros = 1.2254 million S

Barchetta are now worth 220/250 000$ so that means they are selling the Enzo for a cool $1M..

lol Dan (Algar's F50 no doubt!) - reminds me of that deal that the Classic Car Collection (http://www.carclassic.com/) was running a while back - buy an Enzo and they'll throw in a 550 Barchetta. Can't remember the price now (I think over a million Euros) but it wasn't as outlandish as this guy with the 288!

Actually, an Enzo and a 550 Barchetta for 1.1 million Euros (or so) is pretty good isn't it? I would look up the conversion if I wasn't so tired :-)

This same wacko displayed the car at the Russo & Steele Auction in Phoenix in January and was asking $750k. I asked him if he knew that other GTO's in similar condition had sold recently (then) in the low 300's. He said that he knew that but his GTO was "special"

The only special thing about his GTO was that he waaaay overpaid for it (around 800k I was told by a another source) and he was damned if he would take a penny less. I guess damned is as damned does.

That's simply insane - 288 GTOs can be had for around $315K all day long. What would possess this guy to ask $750K??

I looked at the ad online and I just don't get it - what are we missing?

dont worry about typos, most people dont read the letters, they read the words...dont tell that to your high school english teacher...and 750 K for a 288 GTO is insane and nuts. I dont think anyone will buy it for that or even half as much

I was always told that if you don't ask for $750K you won't get $750K :-)

I would think you get two markets for 288GTO's

You have the collector that's watched the market for a long time, and wants the best GTO for around $300k that he can get.

Then you have the guy that won the lottery or just sold his start-up for more then he ever imagined. This guy says to his car broker, find the best GTO out there and buy it fast!

If you have a GTO that is the best! You can price it this way and hope this fat cat comes along.

Just got email of new issue of DuPont Reistry. Looking in there and there is a 288 GOT with 1400 miles, A/C, Power Windows and Inserts and asking price is $750K! Is this a typo or are they nuts?

I thought gto's went for around $300K.
