Slag: I personally dig the Crossfire with it's retro'ish styling and it does put down some pretty decent performance numbers for the price. I'm somewhat disappointed that it's essentially a MB SLK underneath, but it's hard to argue with the choice since MB does make some great cars. It's good to see some American car companies getting with the times and actually making some affordable performance cars like the Crossfire, Neon SRT-4, PT Cruiser Turbo (er, okay it's not a "performance" car per-se, but shares the SRT-4's powertrain). Now if they can only figure out that bland, cheap, plastickey (is that even a real word? ) are unacceptable maybe they'll get more respect in the international automotive community. And building some globally respected supercars like the forthcoming GT40 and whatnot can only change things for the better. |

Patrick is correct, that thing is hideous. Its WAY too ugly to be an Orca, Orcas are such beautiful beasts, better to just call it the blue pup tent on wheels |

I haven't had a chance to read the MB/Chrysler supercar article yet but this bit in the Beck Orca article got me thinking.
quote:Why the Volvo powertrain? Beck explains, At first we had some interest in our project from Ford, but when the GT40 was approved all such outside high-performance involvements were stopped.
How might the decision by MB/Chrysler to build a midengine supercar effect the supply of AMG engines to Pagani? ______________________________________________________________ Patrick Yes, it is the Orca. Here is a link to the article. You really have to check out this article. They put a 665hp V8 in your favorite car.

James, is the Beck car called an Orca? If so that car is hideous... It's the ugliest thing I've seen next to an aztek. |

I read with technology they can design these cars for less money ~ given the effort it takes. The companies are realizing that these niche cars are often highly profitable. They also have a nice effect of also drawing attention and customers to the marque/company. (marketing magnets) |

This weeks Autoweek is pretty wild. MB via Chrysler is going to build a midengined 550HP car a la the new GT 40 (Detroit autoshow) and Beck has built a Volvo powered super car that they claim their going to put into production (With an AUdi Turbo Engine) that goes 0-60 in 2.7 with a top speed of 258 for 260K. If true that would be faster than a Bug for 1/4 the price or 1/3 the price of an Enzo. |
