..."a quick tart up".....LOL ! Yes phil....I've been thinking that a quick spray is the only route to go. So those plastic/rubber lines are only secured by their tight fit on the steel lines? Geez....that doesn't seem very safe, but since I haven't heard of problems I guess it's okay. That boiling water method actually works? You would use it to remove them, and to re-install them? |

You can separate the plastic lines from the steel pipes. Simply drop them in boiling water for 30 seconds or so and they'll soften enough to pull off. But unless you polish the steel pipes back to be perfect, the plating will still look crap with pit marks etc. I'd either paint them with a bit of wheel gold paint for a quick tart up, or bite the bullet and get all new ones...... |

what about Earles plumbing ? Maybe you can get some nice aftermarket aeroquip lines that would be far superior & look better & last longer than the Ferrari originals |

Jeff: Most of mine are the same as yours. I light sanded some and will just leave it alone. Not worth the trouble.......remember they are already 15-17 years old. IMO |

LOL !! It's okay Steve, from what I've read of your posts in the past, I wouldn't even think of challenging your Ferrari knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. |

Steve...yes I was talking about the lines from the distributors to the injectors...they have about a 4 inch section where there is a hard rubber line portion a few inches away from the distributor housing, then metal again the rest of the way to the injectors. |

My bad Jeff -- I thought you were just talking about the hard lines from the FD to the injectors. If you means the braided lines from the FP to the FD then you couldn't replate the end fittings with the rubber attached so restoration cost/hassle goes way up. Did the Gentry Lane set have it all (hard lines, braided lines, cold-start lines, etc.)? |

Hello Steve...I'm kinda worried because of the rubber hose sections on the lines. I would imagine when the lines were made, they were formed and plated, then the rubber sections were assembled. I have not looked for a source yet. But a friend of mine who is restoring a Hemi Roadrunner has a source for plating. I'll give him a call about it. It would be nice if some generous, charitable soul would sell me the lines cheap........okay...wake up Jeff...wake up! |

I'd try getting them replated -- have you not been able to locate such a service? |

In the process of detailing the engine, I have removed the fuel distributors and surrounding components for cleaning. The distributor lines were originally zinc plated, but now are a bit crusty in appearance. Gently cleaning with a scotchbrite pad removes the oxidation, then I'm left with bare steel lines. I'm considering trying to coat them with something or paint them. I've seen a set of new lines on ebay from Gentry Lane for.......starting bid is around $800 or buy it now for $1,500 !! Am I the only one who thinks this is outrageous pricing? I'm interested to hear any comments on what to do. Thank You. |
