Carm, just get your parking pass at the FCA website for next year (once avail). The F parking at the track was very safe. And if you book the official package, you'll also have safe parking at the hotel. |

Hehe, Jack. You think it is bootleg? Hard to imagine, the man is so rock solid. If I'd be wearing it, you could bet money it came from Taiwan, but his, I bet it was made by the same ladies who did your seats. |

Joshua, not sure where tower 33 is, but I was parked on Saturday on the infield, about North West corner. Probably was me, not too many wings you see, hehe. Yup, that was definitely me at the hospital. I would have loved to rev up the engine for the crowd, but there wasn't really much room to do so safely. |

Andreas, Were you parked around tower 33 on Saturday? I saw your car and did a double take because of the wing. I am not used to seeing wings on 308s, so I was a bit taken aback. I also saw you leaving the track. One of the yellow jackets held you up for a moment right about where the hospitality area starts, and then you punched it (just for a second) for all the rubes walking around. Nice pics btw. |

Jason, no problem, feel free to use it. BTW: Was a rather tricky shot: With my right hand I was driving and with my left trying to snatch the shot. I had to do this over and over again until I got both cars right (since you don't see the view finder). At one point I had even both arms outside the car holding the camera (good thing the knees can lock in the steering wheel). |

Some more shot from the gathering:
The morning after:
Proof, that my 308 really made it to the IMS.
The "Photographers' Hill" in turn 8. Best spot if you have a long lens, since there are no fences. And as you know, I have the biggest...lens.
Some of the friendly fans you encounter.
This was on Saturday morning, practice. The session Schumi's car stopped in turn 8... ...more to follow

Wade, I'm sorry I can't remember his name. I spoke to him and he is a very nice guy. Belongs to FCA Indianapolis, so maybe that helps to track him down. He was at the meet last year as well and I pointed out to him, that he put the clock and the temp gauge in reversed locations in the center console of his QV. He never changed it and told me this year, it is actually easier for him to read them this way. Here are some more shots of his car. He is the guy with the yellow shirt standing next to his car:
And for what it's worth: He has a beautiful wife.

I am the owner of the black 86 targa TR that many people saw last weekend in Indy...After reading the posts about the car I will try to set the record straight. The car is 1986 TR US car...this car was on the cover of car and driver sept 86...I purchased the car from the owner in chicago when the car had a few thousand miles on it....The car was sent to R. Strayman in california for a targa conversion as many of you may be aware they are the premier body conversion co in calif....the car was sent about 4 yrs ago to Bob Norwood in dallas where he converted the motor to a four valve twin turbo motor with computer controled NOS to spin up the turbos thus eliminating turbo lag...The NOS can be turned off by a switch in the center console...I never use it as the car is so fast without it and there is vertualy no turbo lag...The car has aprox 25000 org miles on it and the redone Norwood motor has approx 2000 miles.. The car is missing a few rubber pieces around the corners (uses 308 moldings)...The car is extremely fast you wont find a ferrari that will run away from it yet the car is extremely civilized and easy to drive although I never drive any of my cars for more than short putts...Last year I sold my F 40 to the pres of club in kansas city...many of you may have seen the article on the car in forenza mag this past spring...Anyhow before I sold the F40 we raced it against the TR several times...At the line the F40 ran away for the first 150 yards then the TR ran away from it...lots of fun...All in all the TR is a great car The targa conversion and the norwood conversion make it a fun car to drive and no one is going to pull up next to you and blow your doors in...I have a factory mod twin turbo porshe (96 and very fast and special ) and the TR runs away from that car also...The car is for sale $84000... It needs to be owned by someone who is going to drive and enjoy the car ...this car likes to run not sit in the garage...this car really has over 900 horsepower norwood says just under 1000 hp he dinoed the car after he built the engine...Im sure he prob has records on the car also the big tires and wheels help keep it on the ground...If anyone has interest contact me at 317 7522000... |

You got a point there Jerry. I use my digital for static shots like the ones on here. However unless you're talking a serious and expensive digital SLR, digital cameras are simply not fast enough for sports photography. That's why I'm still using my good old Nikon. And while I was getting drenched in the open stands on raceday I was thinking, it wasn't the worst decision NOT to have yet bought a digital SLR. Who knows what all that water might have done to it. My Nikon only needed a wipe off afterwards. |

Thanks Jerry. Wait till you see the F1 pictures... Haven't processed those rolls yet, but if only 50% turn out as good as it looked in the view finder, you guys will like them. Did I mention, that Schumi stopped in the first practice session on Saturday about 100 yards away from me? Ah, see what I mean? |

Dunno FCA's plans for next year, but I think it is safe to assume they will have that gathering again (they had it every GP year so far). Most likely again in the same place, the circle. Anybody with a Ferrari can participate I believe, but it is more polite if you sign up with them beforehand. Anybody with a car also gets a 50% discount on the dinner buffet. |

Interesting - I wish I had known about this gathering. Same thing next year? Can anyone go? Etc... Seems very nice. Also, anyone in a TR on 465 East around 9:30-10 PM Saturday? Awesome seeing a Ferrari on the road for the first time!!! Whomever it was did not have a chance to open it up though, so I didn't get to hear it - looked wonderful though.

Kelly, The wheels are made by Speedline, slightly different than a GTO wheel by having the spokes a little smoother. Picture of the same Speedline with 5-bolt pattern.
Picture of a real 288 GTO wheel.

The wheels appear to be 288 GTO wheels which fit the 86 TR perfectly. I have a set of them that my wife gave to me as a christmas present, bought from FaF in atlanta. I think they do quite a bit for the car. Mine are mounted on a 86 TR also. |

The owner of the TR wasn't there; it was driven by somebody who had no clue about Ferraris (and admitted so), but was telling us the 'facts' of the car while he was trying to sell it. So it is quite possible, that we're not talking about 950 HP, but that's what he said. Anyway, the engine also had been worked over by Norwood. Not sure whether it got turbos or not, but look for yourself, here is a pic:
The car had racing seat belts and all kinds of additional instruments in the cockpit. The conversion to Targa was IMHO done poorly: You saw the cut off points, very crude. Same goes for all the cabling hanging in the engine bay.

As usual I got a ton of pictures, but I'll restrain myself and only post a few. At least at one time... So here the first few: Taking the Skyway in Chicago:
Approaching sacred ground:
On the way to the Zoo, at the newly finished museum's complex:
About 40 Ferraris escorted by a dozen Police Harleys:
First time I saw a TR targa conversion.
The NOS tanks of the TR in the front. 950 HP!
Grid girl Tory posing with my car.
Winged beautys.
