In 1980,one yr after I had bought a new Aston Vantage there were 2 red/tan Daytona's for sale at the AM dealership (74's) for 45k.each . Couldn't swing it since I had a bunch of other toys.A few yrs later you know what happened to the prices of Daytona's.Also wish I never sold the AM. C'est la guerre! |

When I went to high school in Santa Monica, CA in the late 60s, there were several repair/race prep shops (including Andy Granatelli's Indy car team)within lunch time walking distance. I grew up in Malibu, so Ferraris were not all that rare. One day, the manager of one of the shops let me sit in and start a 250 GT PF that they had in for repair. It was for sale for $1,500 - and I had the money - but after finding out that the exhaust manifold it needed cost $1,750.... the used Triumph GT6 seemed like a more "sensible" solution. I have a 2000 BMW M5 as my daily driver. It is a wonderful car and will run with most exotics. And seat 5 to boot. |

In 1978 I was working for Michelin Tire Corp. near Andersonville, S.C.. After my first good pay raise I decided I was going to buy me a sports car. At the local Chevy dealer there was a brand new Corvette for a little over $11,000.00 and a 1972 Ferrari Daytona for around the same price. Me being 20 years old at the time, I opted for the new Corvette. I thought it was a no brainer at the time. New car verses 6 year old car for the same price ! Now a 1977 Vette is worth $10,000.00 maybe while a 1972 GTB/4 is worth $85,000.00 minimum. I only hope I'm faced with such a option in the future. |

I once passed on a 1965 GTO 4 speed convertible in 1968 because I could not afford it. It was $1500.00 and I ended up buying the 1965 Corvair for $895.00 that I still own. By the way I have predicted a long time ago that the Station Wagon will be the next trend. I love wagons and have owned several over the years. If the perfect all around vehicle was designed, it would be a Station Wagon. |

When I was 16 and looking for my first car, I came across a Lancia Scorpion for sale in Montreal. White with Red leather. These are fabulous little cars, folding full size sunroof, designed by Pinninfarina, mid-engine Fiat Twin Cam (although in this application very asthmatic, but these engines can be hot-rodded easily). Beauty. Asked too much for it (or was it I didn't have enough?). Saw another one years later when I moved to Vancouver. Azzure Blue over Tan leather, S/N: 0731, looked beautiful, but drove like s---, got high from the gas fumes in the cabin... even with the top off! I'd still like to get one, a daily driver that'd make me feel like I'm driving the Ferrari. |

Have you ever passed on buying a car, and then years later thought about whether you made a smart move. I did it once with a MGB GT V8 that was professionally restored and would have been a blast in college but I didn't get it. (test drive was exciting, the brakes hadn't been replace yet and didn't work at all) Owner showed me how to drive it anyway. We stuck to some country back-roads. Still think back to that great old car. After college I remember shopping for a 308- this one had the boxer two-tone black paint, Euro car. I bent the front hood trying to push it down, before I knew the trick. I was so embaressed. Still think of that car, Don't see too many 308's with the two-tone paint, looked good. Passed because I didn't want a Euro car. Dealer was very nice about crease in the hood. He looked at me like I was the second guy that day to do that. |
