i remember reading that when they first agreed to meet it had to be in a town halfway between Maranello (Ferrari) and Turin (Pininfarina). (I forget which town... cant check the library - at work) Neither wanted the other to have the "home turf" advantage.... Both were very proud and headstrong people. both worked hard for what they built so they perhaps they had every right to be.... i believe it was the book "Ferrari Design of a Legend" - a wonderful book that has a good balance between informative text and wonderful photography and print quality - a rare find these days...) Battista Farina was the youngest of 11 children and was, therefore, nicknamed "Pinin." Up until 1961, his coachbuilding firm was "S.A. Carrozzeria Pinin Farina." However, in that year he changed the family name to "Pininfarina" and the name of the carrozzeria followed suit. |

Actually, it was Battista Pinin Farina, Sergio's father. The name was changed to Pininfarina.

Battista "Pinin" Farina was the super daddy I believe, right? Sergio is his son and the family name was changed to Pininfarina to honor him (Pinin that is). |

Sergio Pinin and ?? Farina made a special pack with Enzo a very long time ago (late 1950s). Ferrari would be thier "special" customer and Ferrari would provide them "special" considerations! The emblem/advertizing is part of that consideration. This is nothin new in Italian automaking. Bertone got its name on various Fiats; Giugaro (sp) got his name on several Fiats and Alfas. Even VW puts a designers name on the Ghia Coupe. |

I've always wondered why Pinifarina was written on the sides of Ferraris. Is that the design company for Ferrari? |
