Greg I actually find myself posting and reading not only a Ferrari board but ALSO a Honda board and believe it or not I also frequent a Porsche board. I actually am able to be enthusiastic about more than one brand of car.

Robert-This is a Ferrari board so we have a strong bias for Ferrari's over a Honda. Should not be a surprise to you and you should not get so upset. If this tongue in cheek "Honda bashing" bothers you then switch to a Honda board.

wow, spoken like a true chassis snob, and with such apt obtuse enthusiasm. amazing, didn't know that could be accomplished so easily. you know, for such a senna fan, you'd think you'd give honda a little credit.

You guys need to read the piece, I believe by Peter Egan on deciphering used car ads.

"Serious buyers only" means just that. That's all.

There's more hilarious items in the piece, I'll see if I can find it.

i've been trying to keep away from this thread, but it just wasn't possible...

Just because Nika found ownership not up to par doesn't mean that the car can't still be worth top dollar... All this nonsense is uncalled for... i'm almost positive that if this thread were started by a male (with the same things said), the ensuing responses would have been different; that may just be exactly one of the reasons why ownership "isn't what she expected"...

i personally hope Nika reconsiders keeping Mister Bumblebee or gets another Ferrari...

If you're interested in the car or curious as to why ownership isn't what she expected, that's one thing, but if you're here just to break her shoes, well, that's really unnecessary, don't you think...?

Hey, relax guys, if she wants to sell her car what do you care? Like Tazio said, it's an add for a used car. If she decides to keep it good for her! I hope she does keep it so that there will be 2 yellow bumblebee's in Toronto (mine's a woman), but if she sells it, Nika will still be a friend.

As Waldo indicates, Nika, being a professional in every sense of the word, has written an article on the car, her perception of it, and how she is perceived by the man on the street.

Kevin,
to answer your question, yes from time to time I do and sometimes I wish I did.

Had a guy look at a 355. Flew in from Canada to look at it. Had his mechanic with him. He could not get a flight till 3 weeks after. I held off painting the car since he wanted it in a different color that I wanted to paint it in.
He arrived, came to the shop, the car was on the lift, compression check done and absolutely positive. We found only minor things wrong with the car that totaled a few hundred Dollars, like 1% of the purchase price.
He proceeds to tell me he talked to the previous owner, who gave him great news on the car, he talked by accident to the neighbor of the owner, who also races 355CH and gave this car an enthusiastic thumbs up. He drives the car the next day and is impressed. Likes the handling and his mechanic has nothing to report.

I am asking $ 69,000 and he offers $ 55,000.

Not that he wasted my time he wasted my mechanics time, his mechanics time and his own time.

I wish I would have asked then!

Sorry for no explaination....the cars are actually pronounced "Hoen-dah" in Japan...Handa is actually pronounced "Hahn-dah"...confused? I deal with it everyday...People call me "Hand-ah" and Japanese folks think I'm a stupid American of Japanese descent who can't pronounce his name right (they mistakenly believe I am a "Honda") Ugh!

BTW, I HATE hyphenated identities...I consider myself first and foremost an "American"...no "Japanese-American" for me :-)

Hi there...
I don't know Nika at all, but I just read this on her website:
<quote>
The more daring strangers would talk to me with "nice car" being the phrase of choice. Others have shown their manners or lack of, in asking "Is it your husband's car? Did you rent it?" or Lord forbid, "Is that a Corvette"? No, no and not on your life. My claws sharpened around the steering wheel as I tried to smile politely. </quote>

Just a story about her 308. I can't image why somebody who writes so passionated about her car now sells it for a Honda...a Honda :-(

Geez, all this speculation. Why not just leave it alone? We know she's decided to sell the car as I believe someone has already talked to her to confirm this. Perhaps she just realized that it wasn't for her or indeed has personal reasons to sell it, maybe she's even considering upgrading to something else. In any event, it's her choice. Yes, her post probably could've been worded better, but what's done is done.

Guys,

A little perspective here....Nika's post was to sell a car. All I read here is people tearing into the syntax of the post, claiming arrogance, some talk of 'humankind'. Focus here IT IS A USED CAR AD!!!! If you are interested contact her, if not don't. What's the big deal? Can you guys not handle that a woman (who is not an old lady you are taking advantage of and scoring a killer deal on her late husband's car) may be selling a Ferrari where she knows what it is worth and is firm about it. Somehow I would not be seeing this behaviour if it was a man selling the same car. 2 other points:

1. The term 'guy' is considered by women's groups in North America to be gender neutral so it applies to all of 'humankind'

2. Ask the average person on the street or even car enthusiast about Ferrari's. They will think that because of their cost, they must be very reilable, and exceptionally built. Owners know that this is a myth and some are more patient than others about it. No matter how you slice it, even the most reliable Ferrari is not as reliable or cheap to maintain as a Honda.

Oh and the post was made last night at 10:30pm. I'm sure Nika has better things to do than moniter the post all day. I'm sure a reply will come with time.

I can't believe she'd sell it because of this or any board, it has to go deeper than that. I admit I'm curious, Nika was always was of the most passionate owners here.

My ownership expectations have been met. I expected to pay out the wazoo for maintenance, and I have. I expect to get looks and have conversations with strangers, and I have. I never expected to meet fellow owners and enthusiasts that I call friends.

My guess would be that her disappointment in the ownership experience has as much to do with the hostility she has encountered in the community as the car itself.

I know there have been some rocky times in her relationship with this board but I think her remarks in this thread are somewhat out of character. Something must have happened.

I don't know Nika, but I have always enjoyed her posts. She has always given a different outlook on things and she has a deep passion for racing.
I also am going with the minority on her statements though, she has been a member for a long time and like J.D. stated she is a writer and knows the power of words. Any other person posting a car for sale in this manner, most would be telling you to not walk away, but run. As a descriminating buyer "find ownership to not what I expected....I'd rather have a Honda at this point" sounds like there is problems with the car that she cannot fix. Then she comes back with "It's worth top dollar guys - I expect nothing less so don't waste my time" seems a little like the "Discussion with a Salesmen" thread. I also would like to know, as a future owner, what has soured he ownership experience...of course only if she is willing to share.

I too am taking the minority view on Nika's comments. I find her statement "guys don't waste my time..." offensive, terse, and arrogant. Nika is a writer. Writers know the power of the word and choose their words carefully. She could have just said, "the price reflects the excellent condition of the car."
If I play the devil's advocate, why did she say "guys"? She could have said "guys and gals don't waste my time" or just "don't waste my time" Is she saying that only men waste time and woman don't? Is this a sexist remark? I am sure she meant "guys" as in all humankind. No flames please. I am just playing the devil's advocate.

i gotta go with nebula here

there is a complete double stanhdard with the way in which nika is treated - especially since her f chat boycott a while back

what does she expect with the dubious comments she made?

if it was a personal issue - she should have just said it was a personal issue and i think everyone would have repsected that and moved on

and whats with the the no response nika- i don;t plan on buying the car - but when a Tifosi like Nika says "ferrari ownership to not what i expected" doesn't it make everyone the slightest bit curious if not aggravated when she doesn't elaborate

c mon Nika throw us a bone here

Nika's statement aren't exactly happy.
Leads me to think she could be having a bad day and just upset. No big deal. We all have bad days.

Nika. good luck selling your car. I have followed all her stories about the 550, Enzo, Dragster and think you are one cool Racer.

Now I have the opposite question... Why do so few women own ferrari? I think it goes way back to the fact that men buy cars to impress women durring dating. And after guys get old and married they keep on doing the car thing, just as they grew up with it. Now women have more of a nesting (interest in improving the home) then cars. As Women get to the point in their career where they could afford a ferrari, it is just not a major interest in their life?

"find ownership to not what I expected....

I'd rather have a Honda at this point"

You say this, which leads ANYONE to assume that you've had bad experiences with the car.

Then you say this:

"It's worth top dollar guys - I expect nothing less so don't waste my time - e-mail me to make a time to view"

Now, it seems like everyone is willing to use kid-gloves with you, but if anyone else posted these two comments about the same car, they'd be called on it. And that last comment...how fuggin' rude!

Good luck selling an F-car that you'd rather drive a Honda over for top dollar.

Also, what color is your interior?

Nika, Don't tell me that it's not what you expected especially since I will be looking to purchase a 308.

Please tell me this is all a bad dream. :-(

Why bother with the headaches of ownership of a 25 year old mid-preformance car, when you work as a race reporter? Seems Nika can fly all over the world and drive all the newest ferraris and racecars? Let the other guy pay, you just play :-)

You just can't go home to the farm once you've seen the big city.

To the doubting Thomas' out there let me put you straight. I have been seen this car and been in it. Detail for detail it is the BEST 100% original example of a QV I have ever seen. This is a Canada car so the mileage is 33,000 Kilometers (just over 20,000 Miles). The 'rubber piece' on the mirror Nika is referring to is the small plastic cap that covers the mounting screw; a nothing concern for a prospective 308 owner. This car is worth top dollar as it is a no stories perfect original car. Good luck Nika in selling it and I'll put the word out.

Who cares her reason? I care even less when people sincerley inquire the reason and she responds: "It's worth top dollar guys - I expect nothing less so don't waste my time"

Hopefully she's stuck with a money pit...

Drop the "is the world coming to an end?" banter, dudes. She probably has a valid reason for selling that car that if personal, is no one's business...

Is this the same Nika that drove an Enzo a few days ago? That must be it. Nika's unloading the 308 and buying an ENZO!!!

And on a more somber note: could she have come to the same conclusion that Ed Gault did last year?

Nika
Would you please elaborate on the ownership. I assume it's on the negative side?

Is this posting for real??? Nika saying that Ferrari ownership "not what I expected".

What's up?

no...no Ferraris.....

find ownership to not what I expected....

I'd rather have a Honda at this point

The car is very clean - all paperwork - new shocks......you won't find a QV as good
