Good (Big company) gas has additives already in it so you shouldn't need to add any. Cheap gas doesn't so carb/fuel injector cleaner every few months isn't a bad idea. Water Wetter actaully works if cooling is an issue, but most cooling problems in mid engine cars come from impropor air bleeding. My Lotus needs to be done by the book but it then cools as well as an American car. Still, I use Water Wetter and notice a 3 degree C drop in operating temp. I agree with the comment to never add anything to the oil. You should be changing it a lot anyway. If you have leaks, address that issue and don't use anything to swell the seals. If you have gear oil and have leaks at the output shafts, replace the seals. While an additive may do less harm than in the engine, I wouldn't screw around with it myself. |

Name brand fuels have cleaners and should never require additives of any type. High concentrations of cleaners have been known to degrade seals, do not use them. The best way to protect your cooling system is to use antifreeze as directed by it's label. Each formulation is somewhat different. Do a search to see what I have found out from testing and the manufacturers information. Never add anything to your oil. You will only dilute it's own additives and possibly inactivate something. Never. aehaas |

I heard that "water wetter" is good to add to the radiator. once in a while I will use Techron in the gas. |

For gas, a very trustworthy mech. says to use Swepco formula 5 or 805 or whatever it's called. His example was a TR that had run over 130k miles, adding it every tank. Car has been at Virginia City HC, etc. --Dan |

I have no idea why a Porsche guy is pushing radiator sealant, unless it's a mean joke of his, but in any case, if your cooling system has no leaks... You don't need it. If your car is not consuming any, or trace amounts of oil (within the amounts posted in your Owner's Manual), then you don't need any oil additives. Same goes for gas. I think Chevron "Techron"'s abilities are overrated and I've certainly witnessed how it damages the insides of the tanker trucks that deliver it to the stations, so even that stuff I can't suggest using. Just buy from stations that have frequent use and change your fuel filter on a regular basis. |

I have an 85 Mondial QV cab with 25k miles, 30k mile service performed 4 years ago. A friend who is a Porsche enthusiast is pushing me to use radiator sealant, and gas and oil additives. Any thoughts on whether or which of any of these to use? |
