Jerry,

Hang in there. I picked up my first Ferrari, a 328, three days ago, and immediately began noticing little things I hadn't noticed before. The morning of the second day I was out at first light to look for swirl marks.

But after a 200-mile drive with that magnificent V8 right behind me, and a realistic appraisal of the car, I'm really glad I bought it. Just a little detail work will make it look like new.

I suspect you'll feel the same way in a day or two.

Jerry, if you suddenly get the urge to replace the clutch yourself, http://www.cameragear.com/ec/clutch.htm
not saying it looks that easy but it doesnt look too bad
just an Idea if you want to save a little,

have you adjusted the clutch cable?

I was quoted 1800 by the ferrari dealer (although I am taking it to Larry at Ferrari Tech) for a new clucth (hopefully the flywheel is ok). I am a member of AAA - So I am going to look into getting a flat bed from them.

If your clutch is slipping bad I wouldn't drive it, especially if there will be a lot of stop and go, a new flywheel is around $1100.00

Expect to spend about 8-10 hrs on labor and 500-600 for the clutch itself

Thanks Mr Doody

Don't get me wrong, I love the car - Have wanted one all my life. Just wish I was more mechanically inclined. My dad was an accountant and passed the same genes down to me - We just are not very mechanical. Over time, I am sure I will learn more, but for now, I feel overwhelmed. I am taking the car to the mechanic on Monday - I am sure I will feel better once I have had a good chat with him.

jerry:

sorry to hear about the clutch and interior.

chin-up though! at the end of the day it's only money, and if you've made it far enough to buy toys like these, you can almost certainly make more of it! and if you don't have the money, it's mostly just time, and usually you can find some of that!

when you're crusing down the highway with the top off and you downshift to pass some honda accord, those screamin' eight cylinders behind you will make you forget all about the time and money. it's just magic :-).

enjoy it. let the car put some smiles on your face. you can always sell it if need be; but you'll be happy knowing you had the opportunity to enjoy something special that the vast majority of people, sadly, never get to experience.

life could be worse ;-)

doody!

ps: give your wife a REALLY big hug tonight for being a good sport. i find those go a long way to keeping the automobile addiction from being quelched :-)

I knew the clutch was bad.

I am a bit bummed out regarding the interior though - It definitely needs some TLC. I posted in the southern california section hoping to find a mentor. :-) Definitely could use someone to show me the ropes so to speak.

I didn't sleep at all last night & also kept my wife awake. :-(

I hope I am as ready for ownership as I thought I was!

Jerry, you may score the flywheel depending on how shot the clutch is?
for the price of a tow is it worth the extra for a flywheel

If you still attempt to use it like a clutch and its just about gone....say goodbye to your flywheel.

no...if its not slipping to the point that it is un-driveable, 20 more miles should not create
further damage. Hopefully there is no flywheel
involvement already. Good luck

I just got a 328 and the clutch is shot. Will I ruin anything if I were to drive it to the mechanic about 20 miles away?
