Ferraris from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s are relatively easy to import as no DOT/EPA compliance is required. Later cars are more difficult. Check with Richard Meritt at the DOT in Washington, DC

Tommy - In FORZA magazine Buyers Guide's the articles references "gray market import cars", which I assume includes European imports. Anyone with questions regarding this is adviced to contact the Dept of Transportation´s (-the chat SW does not allow me to print his first name!-) D. Merritt at 202-366-5300 or fax 202-493-2266.

hope this can be of help /Krister

Just an idea.
Have any of you thought of bringing in a US-spec car from Europe? There have been a few US-cars imported to europe from US and they are cheaper than euro-spec cars. I think a lot of them can be found in Germany and France. Probably easier to re-import to US.

As far as I know the the big broohaha between FNA and J.K.Tech (importer in Baltimore) at the level of DOT pertains only to 2001 360's and 550's.Each yr the importer must petition DOT for permission to import stating the euro is essentially comparable to the US model and can easily be brought into compliance.FNA did not protest in "99 or'00 but has for the '01 models. Many purchasers of these '01 models who have pd for the euro have their cars sitting in the broker's garages with the paper work being held up until who knows when as FNA attempts to throw a monkey wrench into the euro import scenario.
Haven't read the article in the FCA newsletterbut have read all the dot minutes.

Very interesting article in the current FML. It states that FNA is now actively challenging the importation of all current Euro F-cars. They claim that 300+ parts are different in US vs Euro cars and because of this there is a safety (or $$$$$$$$$$$) issue. Besides this huge obstacle, a car not seen or inspected beforehand can turn into a nightmare down the road.

I'm fairly new to this website. I really enjoy reading all of the conversations! I will soon be a member of the "bankruptcy club". But I wanted to give you my situation and ask for advice or comments on your experiences.

I have a friend in Italy who is able to buy used, late model, Euro-spec Ferraris direct from an "insider". His prices are very good, but I am unsure about the importing and EPA/DoT regulations on bringing these cars into the US. Do any of you have experience in bringing a Euro car into the US? If so, was it worth the trouble and time? Who can I speak to about the conversion? I look forward to hearing your feedback.
