They just arrested Kwame Brown (Washington Wizards Basketball Player) for driving 120 in Georgia. Had his drivers licence revoked and I'm sure had to pay a hefty fine. I think he was doing that in a construction zone. |

Dave, While not one to admit to having to "buy" the "blue light special" more than i care to admit, what the law in the USA basically is... If you are XX mph (forget the number) over the posted speed limit then it goes from speeding to reckless driving. Legally, you are to be arrested, impound the car and the officer has to do LOTS of paperwork. Most officers do not like massive paperwork and if the speeding is done NOT during the day in a school zone or other extremely hazardous/stupid ways, then you possibly will get only a ticket for speeding. The ticket will not have the true speed you were at, but at a lower "less hazardous" speed. Just what my "friend's" experiences say ;-) Of course we always obey all posted traffic alerts/speed limites, etc etc etc. Enjoy the Music, Steven R. Rochlin http://www.EnjoyTheMusic.com

Get caught doing it in the UK and its an instant ban! Basically if you are doing 30mph over the applicable limit its a ban, so it reads across to 30 over the current UK motorway limit of 70mph. Most Ive been 'caught at' was 90mph on a UK M'way back in 1988, on a m/bike. |

I was on my way to Mosport from Detroit on the 401 driving a 1974 Capri 2800. I was doing 100 mph for several miles (which is not unusual in Canada--you Canadians drive fast, Nika). I pulled into a rest area and turned to open the door only to see a policeman standing there. This was my first indication that I was being tailed. The back seat was full of beer. I had never had a ticket to this point. He said he had been following me for several miles and I hadn't been under 100 the whole way, which was true. He wrote me up for 5 over. On Sunday we went into a little town near Mosport for more beer. At this time Mosport was in the middle of nowhere. We left town heading to the track and increased our speed when we felt that we were safely out of town. There was nothing but farm land around us. It turns out that this town had very optimistic limits. I was surprised to see a policeman run into the middle of the road ahead and flag me down. His car was parked on the other side of the road behind a bush. He told me I was speeding and asked for my license. Then a motorcycle sped by. "Damn, its Jimmy again," he mumbled. "Wait here." He got in his car and took off after Jimmy. I couldn't leave because he had my license. he returned 45 minutes later and ticketed me for 10 over. |

Twice in my life I have gotten a ticket for doing over 100 mph - once in the Austin Healey and once in a rential car. In both cases, I ended up with a ticket for doing just 20 mph over the limit and could mail the fine in. I was curious: is this normal? What has happened to you when you got stopped for doing over 100 mph? |
