Gotta love any school on the ocean with top flight golf courses all around. Of course, that never factored into my decision making process.

U.C. Berkeley in the late 60's...any wonder why I didn't graduate there? BA Mass Communications from California State University, Chico in 1975; MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern in 1979...if I hadn't had kids directly thereafter, I would have owned Ferraris much earlier!

no wonder I'm unemployed! ha! oh wait, no I think a better way of putting it is "employment downtime." Sounds better that way esp since I haven't even bothered looking for work.

Adam, toward the end of my checkered career at Babson, I lived off campus in Needham. I lived in a two family house there. The guy upstairs became a good friend. He had dropped out of high school in 11th grade and he was working as a plumber at the time. He had more business sense and was smarter than most of the students at the college. He could have run circles around them, (and did on occasion although that is another story.) He was an early version of the guy Matt Damon played in "Good Will Hunting". He is now living quite well and isn't a plumber any more. I enjoyed the contrast with the business students who had no common sense whatsoever. It sounds like you ran into the same types when you were there.

Ed / Jay;

I think your education is one you cannot get from a text book or a classroom. My father "stongly" suggested that I start working while I was in Junior High, and I continued through High school and college. If there were things I wanted to buy, beyong the basics I bought them myself. He even made me work for one of his competitors when he owned his dealership, so I would not get special treatment. I worked as a car prep guy, parts counterman, and then a service advisior while in College. Comparied to many of my friends who also grew up in well-off homes, I was one of the only ones to understand the meaning of a dollar. Many of my friends also could not understand why I used to work a graveyard shift or weekends at Ford in an assembly plant and then vol my day shift as a Medic. Everytime I look at my house or Cars, I know my hard work put them there. The two of you, and many like you got an education that many in college today sadly will never get.

Stephen Long '91 is another alumni who has just appeared. He has a 1989 328gts.

Freshmen year I was in Bryant Hall. It was a blast, almost like an unofficial fraternity. We had a year long battle with another dorm where we would raid each other planting live crickets and taking stuff for ransom. The better parts of the dorm were holes in the wall you could see through and finding "Warning: Asbestos" signs on the floor in the basement.

I went from that to being the first year in the new Van Winkle dorm up on the hill Soph. year. They constructed new buildings all the way through my time there and they're still building. The new student center is pretty cool. I just hope tuition doesn't keep rising like it is, my kids will never be able to afford it. I could almost buy a 360 with what 4 years costs now.

Rob;

I was just up at Babo last month, drove the TR around campus, and brought back memories when I had an 86 TR up there for a bit my Soph year. I even remember TKE had a Miami Vice party, and I show up in the TR, good party. I even got a speeding ticket 35 in a 25 coming down the curve from the globe to the maxi lot. The campus has realy changed, and since I graduated in 89, we had all of the construction but non of the results, except I did get to live my last two years in New Dorm, but spent freshman year in the basement of South wich was the worst, with pipes running through it, and two small windows that you could see peoples feet. I even have a Babo sticker for the TR. If you went down to Spit or M80's in Boston there were always Ferrari's outside.

Here's the 62 message long thread last time we did this...

Wow, I think the Babson alumni count is up to at least 4.

I didn't. But I own my own small business and am doing just fine. I think many times it is street sense and common sense that make one successful, and alot of courage to take that first step. Of course it depends on what type of career you want to get into.
