Then you'll be King-of-the-Hill! Sounds like you and Norwood have alot in common

Peter, if I strap twin turbos on the 512TR I get like 1,000 hp :)
just by using the stock flat 12 & dropping a few hundred #s &some suspension & brake upgrades I can smoke F40s. I'm already nipping at their heels with my 512TR road car :)

William, sell your project TR and Countach and get A 288 GTO or F40, then you'll have your twin-turbo's, ball-joint suspension and all of the other race goodies!

I drove my 308QV GTS a lot at Lime Rock on Bridgestone RE71s back in the early 90s. I switched to Bridgestone R1s & dropped 1.5 seconds off my time down to a 1:05:90. I think with some nice porterfield rotors & race pads I maight be able to rub maybe even 1 more second off.
308s handle awesome & brake very well, we really have to do something about that lack of power though, maybe twin turbos :)

The top speed I reached was in the 120 range on the part of the track that is the old NASCAR track. You spend the majority of your time in 3rd and 4th gear. The people were great at TWS, friendly and helpful. There are defined passing areas and you can only pass after you have been waved by. In the corners you can get a little close but not too bad although a guy in a brand new Viper spun out right in front of me making me a little nervous but he slid into the infield. (There are very few barriers so it is very hard to hit anything). As for tires I am running Michellin MXV4's which make for a nice ride but are poor for track performance. Even with that I was hanging with the new Vipers and Vettes of the world in the corners. (They walked away from me in the straights) I am going to run a few more times to make sure I really want to invest in some Hoosiers before I do that but they do make a huge difference. One thing about our cars is they are very well balanced and easy to drive.

Hey Rick,

I want to either try the TWS events or a Porsche DE before June as practice. How fast were you getting your 308 up to on the TWS? Any problems with bad drivers, people passing, passing people? What kind of tires were you running?

You will certainly enjoy the driving events. I attended an event at Texas World of Speed in January and had a great time, at least until the trip back to Dallas. Had my 308 on a trailer and got into a traffic accident on the way home. As luck would have it no damage to my Suburban but the Ferrari took a minor hit to the drivers door. Just got it back from the shop yesterday.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm just a little understandably timid before my virgin track experiences. Deep down I know my Ferrari needs and wants it, so I guess I'll have to please it.

Paul308qv, space is basically unlimited on this site, so send as much video as you like. That would be great.

I have a new toy. I just spent the last few days fabricating a sturdy mount for a small digital video camera to reside just in front of the curved back window of my 308QV. I have tested it and it works great. I will be taping a few laps at Summit point this Spring and would love to upload 30 seconds of the twisties to this site if the opportunity is available later in the site's evolution. Just a thought Rob.

Rob, I participate in track events with my 308QV. It is probably the most fun I have ever had and I can't wait each year for the season to open. Notice the careful wording in my first sentence. I was told by the sponsors of my track events (Ferrari of Washington at Summit Point) that we should all keep in mind that it is not racing, it is a track event. There is no winner and no clock exists. This creates a very fine line with some insurers but as long as you are clear about this if you ever had a claim, it may help you. Now, if you are truly racing, then you have to make a decision if you should tell your insurance company in the hopes that they will not drop you. Have fun.

There r some insurance companies that do cover racing & also cover track events, such as Ohner & Grundy I believe

I think the majority of insurance companies frown upon you using the car for "racing".

Any type of special insurance needed for track days?

My goals are to get into club racing here in about 2 years. I'm just concentrating on autocross right now and will do a few track events. I'll go down to Texas World Speedway at least once before June. I've heard that is a less technical course. I'm signed up for a driver's school, but it's the Evolution Autocross school and doesn't help a bunch towards track days. Probably next year I'll do the Skip Barber.

The Motorsports Ranch looks like a great place. They have really been successfully and I think there are a few other road racing clubs in the works around Dallas.

I'll probably have more questions as time goes. Thanks.

Hi Rob, I ocassionally instruct track driving in the Northeast region.
1st let me ask u a ? r u a member of the Dallas Motorsports Ranch ? I'd love to live close to a place like that :)
Now to your questions : I would suggest you run in the Blue group although you might need to show proof of a Skip Barber type driving school to run in Blue.
WHite group is for complete novices & Red is for psycho drivers like me :)
The National meets r a little different as far as run groups cus there r SO many cars present. I would imagine run groups lasting between 20-30 minutes.
Latest helmet regs r that u have an autoracing SNELL 95. The automobile helmet differs from the motorcycle helmet cus its a bit stronger & has an interior lined in fire resistant nomex.
As far as drivers suits, in Blue group u may be able to get away with long pants & a long sleeve shirt. In Red a Nomex drivers suit is mandatory

Rob, check the FCA newsletter of 10/00 for helmet regs.

Enjoy the cowboy night at Red River. A few years ago they had a mechanical bull that you could test your toughness or drunkness on.

I live here, so I better be going. I work across the street from the Omni Mandalay. I actually proposed to my wife on the balcony of an Omni Mandalay suite. It should be a great week. Here's more info on the road track we'll be using... http://www.motorsportranch.com.

I need to ask some experienced Ferrari track day participants a few questions...

1) Which run group should I be in? I want to run it fast, but I don't want to put anyone, anyone's car, me, or my car at any risk. I realize my 328 won't be running as fast as a F50 GT1. I also might freak out if I come up on a 3 milion dollar 250 TR.

2) How many runs do you get? How long are they? How many cars out there at once? Any special prep besides oil and brakes?

3) What are the helmet regulations? I use a M95 for autocross, but I've heard you need a Snell SA for track days. Do I need a driving suit?

Thanks from the Big D
