If you have an early 348 like my 91, it is worth the change for a tubi. Why? reduce half the weight of twin mufflers and get better results of power, less heat and of course definately get that formula one sound, you can also get rid of that damn lousy useless heat shield. As far as the cats go, as another person mentioned driving on the streets with test pipes and getting caught is a hefty fine. If you can find a pair of bad or used ones and hollow them out would be safer and possibly cheaper but last but not least pass the visual. If you love the Ferrari for what it is, glorify it, do the exhaust mod then enter the freeway high RPM's, drive under a tunnel and you'll know what I mean. Keep it real... Peace...

Frank,
Do you feel a power increase with the test pipes? Also if you install the test pipes, would the car pass emissions?

Yes they do Chris. Instead of a Cat, its just a piece of pipe.

Martin, the 348 sounds much better with the test pipes but not a lot louder until you punch it. So you could idle through your neighborhood with no one noticing a difference.

Mark,
if you decide to do that please post results! I am just scared that I will get serious complaints from the neighbors. Not everybody thinks that a Ferrari sounds better than Beethoven.

I ran an Ad in the "parts wanted" section of the Ferrari Market Letter and had a seller call me three days after the issue went out. I paid $300.00 for the pair. The test pipes have threaded holes to mount the O2 sensors and they work as they are desgned to work. I bellieve you can buy them from www.trutlands.com as well as a fellow named Nick on this board.

Where would be best to buy the test pipes? With the test pipes, what do you do with the O2 Sensors? Is there anything special to do with the ECU? Thanks again. Mark

I would try the test pipes first. I was planning on getting a Tubi for my 348 Spider until I installed the test pipes which only cost $300.00. The car now sounds so good and has more power I have decided I don't need the Tubi

I'm thinking of putting a Tubi on my 348, any recommendations? Where to purchase?

Is it a true "bolt-on"? What is the likelihood of problems with 10 year old exhaust system bolts and fasteners being corroded or deteriorated?

I like the idea of lighter weight, less heat, more power and better sound, but don't want the car to be annoyingly loud for day trips. I have a Cobra with sidepipes for all my hearing damage.

Should I consider CAT eliminators also? Any need to change the chips? Finally are there any downloadable files with a sound bite of a Tubi'd 348? Thanks for any help. Mark McKenzie
