there is only one bible on these cars :

The Ferrari Legend by Jess G Pourret

it gives the entire story from humble 250GT to the heart-stopping power of the GTO (the greatest car of ALL time) and despite everyones account saying Enzo hood-winked the FIA this book goes to great lengths to show the progression over the years and the natural evolution that takes place.

There's always this rubbish that it had Testarossa engines, etc when all he did was take his latest engine and give it 300HP!!! :)

Ferrari have been suing replica builders for years as does the Gucci people, Rolex people, etc

Pretty tough to fabricate a model in which only 39 examples were made, 44 including prototypes, and passing it off as the real thing...

If my memory serves correctly, Favre was charged for fraud in Switzerland, but the case was later dismissed in a court of law, due to the condition, a "serious" buyer searching to purchase a "real" 250GTO would be able to distinguish between a replica and the real thing... Whether or not he was charged in other countries I do not know...

I see ex-Favre GTO's for sale every once in a while in Euro magazines... The last one I recollect a few years back, the broker who was selling it was asking 250,000 pounds sterling...

I don't have any details here, but I believe that he comitted suicide. Not murder as far as I know ...

See Car & Driver, December 1989, one of the feature stories of that issue.

Carried Ferrari badges and serial number plates, even later editions had replica gearboxes (instead of the earlier use of Getrags). They were too perfect, too close, too real.

Big-time spender, lavish hotels, got into some strange dealings, strange people and stolen cars... Comitted suicide or was it murder?

Only six cars were built.

Back in the late 1980's, I think Road & track had an article on Favre. When the market was booming, his copies made to some high end buyers trying to pass them off as real 250 GTO's. I wonder if Enzo had a role in his demise?

Added note:
A dealer in Dallas told me that there was a rumor of a Ferrari movie. It will based on the life of Enzo Ferrari starring Joe Pesci. Has anyone heard of this?

Apparently there is an interesting story behind this. Back when the GTO was being produced, someone was purchasing original parts and creating very accurate GTO's.....story ends with the guy getting killed by the Italian Mafia.

Does anyone have a website/know of a book/have personal knowledge of these cars?
