That is the one unfortunate thing about the UK rags- half of the articles are dedicated to cars we don't get. I look at it like this - as an enthusiast-I buy a car magazine to read about cars I won't be buying but simply enjoy reading about-like say a new Aston Martin or Lamborghini Murcielago-cars that get coverage in both English and US magazines- the English mags however doing a much better job of it-so for me it would be an easy choice if I had to choose. |

Dave...I agree with you. Top Gear and CAR are fantastic. I am over in the UK every month or so and read them when at my friends house. The only problem is reading about all those great cars we cannot get, but we do get in our mags performance data on a Ford Focus or Town Car which is priceless. |

I've had subscriptions to both- I take R & T over C & D for 2 reasons- 1) R & t has formula one coverage and 2) its larger and has higher quality photography. However if you want to see a car magazine at its finest - check out either Top Gear or CAR - both published in england. You can grab them at Barnes and Nobles or Borders- for like 7 or 8 bucks. The level of photography, their size, the quality and length of the articles is so far superior to anything published in this country its almost emabarassing. But hey what do I know I just own a Toyota Just my $.02 DC |

If you have an extra few $$ in your mag fund, try Automotive News. It is a great weekly for all of the inside the industry scoops. It will not have the race coverage or many tests, but it is pure auto industry. This weekly shares my desk space with Forza, Cavallino, Autoweek, and the internal Bimmer rag. |

I've subscribed to Car and Driver for as long as I can remember. I've also had Automobile and Road and Track subscriptions, but can hardly seem to finish my monthly mags, much less the weekly ones. |

I've been getting Autoweek since it was on newsprint. It is a weekly, and costs about the same? What you may notice is that Autoweek isn't terribly polished, but very timely. I like my news new, and don't bother with the others, even though they may be more in depth, with more stories. I don't want to get my 'in depth' race coverage 6 weeks later, while Autoweek has it this week. As for the car coverage, the stories contain all the pertinent info. |

I love C&D. In fact among all the other car rags I read ( Forza, Cavallino, Evo, Car, Sports Car International, Road and Track, Motor Trend, Automobile, Autoweek, and Bimmer), I read C&D last mainly because of their tounge in cheek side comments and the various articles by the editors. Plus, they do test drives on whacky stuff like U.S. Army tanks, and those huge dumptrucks they use in mining. But they are all good. I will wait and see about Motor Trend as C. Van Tune (founder of Car and Driver and Automobile mag) has left the editorial helm. They also mentioned something about evolving their content....hmmm |

Road & Track is better. ...But the mags I always get are Forza (I've got'em all, #1-34) and Auto Italia. That's all the car info that I need! |

R&T is the best non-Ferrari pro-Ferrari mag out there. Historically they've always done a great job covering Ferrari. Plus, R&T covers racing better than some of the other general car mags. |

Yeah, autoweek is awesome. P refer car & driver over road and track. It doesnt seem like road & track does more with race cars, except for the history part they have. Motor trend is ok, but only if theres no c&d or r&t around. Motor trend will rate a car poorly if it cant do burnouts. If you;ve ever noticed, alot of pictures of performance cars in that mag are, infact, doing burnouts or 4 wheel drifts, or being enganged in some type of abuse, i like it, some may not. |

I've been getting R&T for 20+ years... C&D occasionally during that time too. Both good but as you mention, very similar. But THE BEST (IMHO) car mag is AutoWeek. Great articles and it has THE BEST (also IMHO) classifieds. Lots of Ferrari ads and other exotics. It's a weekly... just give it a shot for a few weeks. It's been around forever. AutoWeek sponsors a lot of Speedvision stuff too. You can subscribe here: http://www.autoweek.com/ |

Get them both (as I do). R&T is a much more mature look at mostly sports cars and racings, along with their histories. There are some great stories about Fangio, etc back in the day. CandD is much funnier but spends a lot more time looking at all different cars. They have some classy articles. I think they're different enough that it's worth it to get both. |

My subscription to R & T is about to expire and I was wondering what you guys think of C&D as an alternative. They are very similar I know, but do any of you have a preference for one over the other...and if so why? Thanks. Jerry |
