I got my 86 COuntach with fuel injection cus I didnt want to screw around with the carbs all the time. Carbs offer a little more power when properly tuned though

I must tell you that my next Ferrari will probably be a Boxer. Is there a pro and con to buying a carbed BB over a fuelie BB? I want a carbed car, I have a guy that can tune it correctly. I will keep my 308 QV. Some guy Garry ROberts has a sweet looking black/black one for sale but it is lacking all EPA/DOT papers. I NEED a Boxer.

The BBi is a great car to have. More expensive to maintain...but what would you expect. Its loud, the metric tire/wheel combo sucks, but it goes like a raped ape...I won't let my wife drive it (she can drive the others). Its hot, parts are getting tougher to find but are available. Hey its a pre Fiat - Ferrari.

Best advice is to look for a car that is fully sorted, not necessarily a queen, and pay up for it. A queen will cost you some time & dough to get going, mine had 8,000M on it but its been almost a full year geting it set up and running right.

The nicest ones I've seen, and I've seen a lot are:

Based on milage - one at FO Atlanta 2kMi $90+K, been for sale for almost two years.

Based on price - Amerispec 25kMi $60K ish (and very nice) w/ some damage history. Might be gone now but it was really impressive - nicer than mine.

Based over all - A car I've seen in Boston that is in FML, very clean and per my mechanic runs out really nice. Don't recall price, but it was reasonable.

My advice is to be a man and get one, nothing sissy about showing up in a BBi. Only 1009 were made so its almost guaranteed that your neighbor won't show up with one - try that with a 10,000 production run TR!

Mine's NOT for sale! Good luck

i had a late serial # bbi and loved it. torque is the key and this car has it in spades. i was fortunate to find a garage queen that i then had serviced, with major on engine, new shocks, some new hoses, some minor electrical, and fresh tires. car was spectacular to drive and to look at (classic red/black boxer paint job with tan interior). had very few problems with it. drove it from nyc to florida on a lark one winter day out of sheer boredom. only drawbacks: hot, and even hotter when the outside temperature exceeds 60 F; the seats, while comfortable for short drives, are not that great for distance driving and have little lateral support; the car is like driving a jet with a big anchor strapped to your back; when you can feel where the weight is, this is not necessarily a good sign. The suspension is one of the best, and tricks you into believing that the car is balanced. oh, and unless you upgrade the wheels, you may be stuck with some really antidiluvean tire technology. it makes for even more challenging driving given the weight distribution of the car. Buy a good one; you won't regret it. (also, the quality of the dot mods varies; get a car with good paper provenance on the mods or you will be sorry).

The 512BBi is a beautiful car, Fast too. course its going to require more & more expensive maintenance than the 328 & parts may b harder to come by.
I have a 308QV & a 512TR. The 308 will outhandle & outbrake the TR all day long, but the power of the flat 12 is Highly addictive :)
Ferraris #1 mistake with the BBi & the TR was placing the engine on top of the trans, rather than having the engine behind the trans, this causes the center of gravity to be much higher than ot should be which makes it less agile
I know a guy who has a 512BBi with a BBLM engine, thats the way to fly :)

I am starting a deal with a 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi.
Which are the pros and cons about this model?
Is it easy to drive and maintain?
Is service much different from other models?
Can it be my Ferrari number 2?(I will keep my 328 GTS)
Are 512 BBi's owners happy with them?
I will not take a serious position before I hear the opinion of the experts at Ferrarichat.Com
