I went to Bondurant in Phoenix for the 3 day high performance driving. You really learn to appreciate a Ferrari after learning how to drive it properly. They will even let you use your own car for the course. (I didn't) At Bondurant the instructors spend a lot of time with you and will jump in the car with you repeatedly to show you what you are doing wrong or even take over and drive it for you. The level of their instruction and their methods are unbeatable. They also have skid cars that have hydraulic outriggers with airplane wheels on them to lift your front or rear end as the instructor sees fit to simulate slides. I have never been to Skip Barber but from what I have heard the Bondurant program is quite a bit better and not much more expensive. If you go make sure you do the Kart programs at night. You can learn a lot from a 200lb vehicle that does 0-100mph in 6 seconds and back to 0 in 4.

I did a one day track day school with the Ferrari Club.(at Sebring) I think it was Skip Barber that was behind that. Don't remember, was going too fast to read their labels...:-)

In just that one day I learned a heck of a lot. Helps in every day driving as well. Good also because you use your own car and really get to know it better.

Funny, just yesterad<y a friend here told be he saw me a few days back at a corner (city) where I took that corder and speed off. He tought I would lose it any moment. I could not even remember when I was close to having the feeling that I would lose it soon. Talking about perception.

Anyway, on the subject. Althopugh I believe that one day track school does not really qualify as school it was great. Hope to be doing a longer school soon.

I did the Skip Barber 3 day school in '86. It was a real hoot and got me excited about open wheel racing, which I did for 12 years.

I think a good school is worth it, although they have gotten to be more expensive recently.

I just attended Skip Barber a few weeks ago. Like almost everyone else I have heard from I had a great time and learned a lot while there. There is a great deal of seat time and you go home shot every night. It is expensive but I certainly feel it was a very good value even at $3k.

I've just done the SCCA racing schools and then a private autocross school.

Yes, Bob. After years of having fun with heel-and-toe double-clutch downshifting on my everyday car, I finally went to Skip Barber at Lime Rock about 4 years ago. It was outstanding! I attended the three day race school using the Formula Dodge cars. One of the most rewarding parts of the school, believe it or not, was going around the track with an instructor in a Neon on the second day. Not because of the car, but because it was the only time our instructors got to coach us one-on-one and point out what we were doing - right or wrong. When we got back into the Formula Dodge cars, we were much more "educated" about the track. This definately helped our knowledge of the line, which in turn, improved our technique and finesse behind the wheel. I highly recommend this program to any enthusiast - expensive, but worth it! I still love talking about it!

Thanks,
Anthony

Ever been to a racing school? Would you recommend it? Did it help your Ferrari driving skills?

A few years ago, I went to Russell Racing School when it was still at Laguna Seca... raced Formula Fords. What a hit! I'm flying into Laguna Seca's corkscrew while my wife was hanging out in Carmel... both thrilled... great time! Highly recommended!
