Thanks for the info guys,
The rebuild was done by a Ferrari Dealer. I have yet to get a response as to why it needed a rebuild. Thanks, Jim

Find out who rebuilt the engine & get it tested on a dyno, copression test, leak down, the works.
308 trannys r notoriously finicky, I used to get false neutrals often & had to go to the shop to get it checked out. Find out why the engine needed a rebuild, If it blew up it might have damaged the trans but u should know that as soon as u drive it

James, a rebuild after 48k miles? I'd be careful if I were you. There are people on this board with many more miles on their 308 and no rebuild. Get an explanation and the info on who did the work.

With American cars, the Automatic transmissions usually go between 50 - 100k mi. When I had my General Motors 700R4 rebuilt, my tranny guy mentioned that there was (& has always been) room on the 3-4th gear shaft for 9 band clutches, but the factory only installs 6! Thus, the need for an 80,000k mi rebuild. This cost me $1,200.00!!!!!! Of course the bearings were all fine. And,,, I watched the rebuild, it took 10 min., not bad for 10 min worth of work. ( Well enough on US automatics.)
I guess my point is, "with Ferrari's, the bearings are usually fine." The syncros can take a beating from people who are used to shifting Fords, but this will not effect a transmissions integrity.

Also, with 308's you only need to remove the left rear wheel & the differential cover to change the clutch. Simple and beautiful.

Hi,
I'm relatively new to this post, and I was wondering,
If you rebuild a 308's motor (stock rebuild) say with 48k on it, will the original transmission be strong enough to handle it? I know a lot of the times on american cars, if you rebuild the motor on a car that has some miles on it, it won't be too long before the transmission goes. Is it the same with Ferrari's? I've spotted a 308 with a freshly rebuilt motor, and the car has 48k mil on it. That's why I'm asking.
Thanks, Jim
