The best run I ever had, was on my 90 zx10. I rode from Luke afb to Amarillo texas in about 12 hours (It was part of my cross country run, Luke Afb to Philadelphia Pa, and then back). It was something like 970 some miles. I was hauling some serious ass and I got caught in a hail storm right on the outskirts of NM going into texas. You have to love tornado season. |

Some may have heard my story before but I'll share it again. The day I was married I rented a Mondial spyder. I picked it up early saturday morning so I could boot around before the ceremony. I spent a good 2 hours cruising around. At the ceremony all the guests came up to me and told me they had seen me driving all over town! Well as soon as we said the I do's we (my wife and I) got into the Mondial and hit Highway 401 in Toronto. We were cruising at about 180 km/hr with my wifes veil blowing in the wind, everyone trying to get a look at the bride in the red Ferrari. Lots of thumbs up and horns all the way to the photo shoot. Once there we gathered all of the wedding party together around the car and took a few rolls of film with us and the car. Then we hauled a$$ to the reception hall. Since we didn't leave for our honeymoon till Friday, I kept the car a few days and had a blast! Now my wife doesn't want me to buy the 308GT4, she wants a Mondial!!

Jay, That is a good story. It was really cool of the guy to offer to send you a copy of the tape. |

I got next to a powder blue F355 spyder one night (2AM) while in my 400 RWHP twin turbo Supra back in 99. We played a bit back and forth but traffic was pretty thick. This went on for a few miles. While sitting next to them at a light I kept hearing a really loud engine revving from behind. It turned out to be two late model mustangs with a lot of mods. We reached an intersection with three lanes. We all lined up except for one of the mustangs that was 1 car back. The light turned green and we all launched hard. The pack was dead even until I hit 3rd gear and started to pull a bit and then more into 4th. It was a lot of fun. I was amazed at how fast the Ferrari was with two passengers. |

Okay, I know I already shared my general story about the Autobahn experience, but I do have one specific story to share. I was driving the 360 Modena on the Autobahn through Munich one Saturday night, and in the city, there's a speed limit of around 50-60 mph. So I'm just loafing along when this BMW 3 series gets all over my bumper. He hung there for a while, then made a pass. I could see it was a regular 3 series, but he had DINAN tags all over the place, and the exhaust was loud, so I was assuming some modifications of some sort. Anyway, he clung to me through the city, until we got outside the city limits, where the speed limit ends. I came know the "end of speed limit" signs on the Autobahn very well (white circular sign with black hash marks), and after traveling several miles with this BMW all over me, was in second gear, with the revs high, ready to nail it when I saw the sign. The sign came, and I went hard. Redlined second, third, fourth gears, and climbing fifth hard. The Modena was running flat out. I passed him mid-way through third gear, and by the time I was climbing fifth, he was becoming pretty small in the mirrors. After crusing a constant 150+ mph for 15 minutes or so, I got into some turns and slowed down a bit. Next thing you know, there he is again. He makes a high speed pass (probably 160+ mph) and when he passes, I notice his passenger has a video camera, and it's pointing right at me. Never one to pass the opportunity for play, I of course pursue again. So long story short, we run from Munich all the way down to the Bodensee (Lake Constance) on the Austrian/Swiss border. Just before the border, when I'm again ahead of them, I pull off to get some gas. (FYI, gas in Europe is awesome... 98 octane!) He follows me into the gas station, and we end up standing there for the next 30 minutes drinking Coca Cola, talking cars. Before we departed, the guy gave me his information and asked me if I'd like a copy of the videotape. I told him of course, and offered to pay for a copy. He told me he'd send me a copy. I expect to have it within the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to see it! |

Jim, if a teenage girl is behind you, you should go slower to let her catch up and give you her phone number, not faster.... :-)) |

The day after I picked up my car, I drove from Salt Lake City to Denver. I managed to drive through 2 canyons and over 3 two-lane mountain passes that day. I'll never forget the teenage girl in her Ranger pickup trying to keep up with me going over Tennessee pass. I came no where the cars limits that day, I pushed it as hard as I dared as a new owner, and it just begged for more. A week later, I had the car in Southern Colorado in the Sangre de Cristo mountains, driving the car on mountain backroads that I grew up driving. I finally got the tires to squeal when I hit a hairpin turn at 70mph....the signs suggested I take it at 25! |

After the FAC Sebring event my frined in his 996 and I were riding back south on SR 27 approaching speeds of 150Mph with an average of 120Mph. Not very scenic or challenging but fast for sure. I would like to do a run through the mountains. Like the Alpine experience we have in another discussion. |

Firstly I assume we are excluding track runs... Still waiting for that ultimate Ferrari run, had some good ones on the North Fork and a few in the hamptons but too much traffic and too many smokeys keep me from realy having fun. That leaves me with a really great run witht he top down on my xke roadster at 3am on the belt parkway coming back from visiting my girlfriend in LI (having already had a exotic sports car experience with her!)was hitting up to 100+ along the bay as the only one on the road. Flew by a NYC cop and he couldn't have cared less. Had fun in turbo lotus esprit coming back from Boston once.. a real blast.... |

I actually had a lot of great runs in my Countach5000QV, I once made it from Reno NV to San Francisco CA in 2hrs 15 minutes around leaving around 11:00PM Then there was this awesome 5 mile long straight , rte 395, between Carson City & Reno that I used to see 180mph + on Since then I have calmed down a lot, mostly when I found out 1 can go to prison for speeding, Crazy, Cant wait till they start having executions for speeders. I took the 512TR on a great ride in the Forza Mille V12 rally in 2000, that was a lot of fun, think I'll do it again this year. What I really want to do is a rally in Europe |

Hey Guys, I'm in the middle of one of those "good" sleepless nights, where I've got all these ideas brewing in my head, one of which stemmed from an earlier conversation topic: I thought it would be pretty cool to start a chain of retellings for the group of great Ferrari runs or experiences in a Ferrari. I know this comes up from time to time, but haven't seen it formally in its own chain. If it became popular enough, we could even make it a weekly thing or start another section for it. I'm sure all of us must have at least a handful of thrilling driving experiences everyone would enjoy hearing about (I mean William alone could probably keep this chain running for months!). I'd be happy to start off, but feel a bit sheepish as I'm still saving for my first Ferrari; I only have three test drives to select from - exciting for me, but I'll spare you the ennui. What do you think? Best, ~Chris |
