This car was bought new from FAF by Jim Kanely as a Fiorano Edition. For the most part it looks like a regular 348 Spider. The only things I noticed different were the carbon fiber console, door siles and shifter ball and piping on the leather interior. The exterior body, tail lights ect.. were the same as all other 348 Spiders.

Frank,
maybe you can make some research on that. Contact the FCA to find out and maybe even FNA.

Willis: thanks for the info. I now remember the so-called "Fiorano Handling Package" you're talking about. But it is in fact a series of options and not a specific type like the F355 Spider Fiorano is .....

Frank: are you sure that it was an original car, not a modified one?? I've seen several 348s with doors like the F355 and the rear end of an F355, but all of them were just modified cars.

I know the Fiorano 348 Spider I saw was real and not fake. It was sold by Ferrari of Atlanta(then FAF) to Jim Kanely, the former owner of Road Atlanta. It must be rare as I have never seen or heard of another.

The 550 Maranello have a Fiorano option which has the lowered and stiffer suspension and, I think, different wheels. The europeans could get a leather wrapped rollcage installed also. Michael Schumacher has this option on his personal 550.

As far as I know, there was no Serie Fiorano on the 348 Spider available, but only on the F355 Spider. All of them were numbered (#x of 100), so does anyone know if the other 15 cars were numbered too??

Ben, could you also tell more about the 550 Maranello Serie Fiorano?? Where have you seen them?? Would be interested in some details .....

Regarding 348 GTB vs 348 tb: the GTB version can be seen as a 'modificato' version of the 348 tb. The most important difference are lower bumpers in body colour (are the called "sills" or so?), the chromed Cavallino Rampante on the rear (while the tb version has a black one), a modified engine hood and 20 HP more. I'm sure that Bluemel's book "The Original V8" has more info about it .....

I remember this vaguely, FNA site would probably have some good info on it. The G was added in like 91-92 or somewhere around there when they refined the car and changed it a little (engine, etc). Hope this helps a little.

Ben,

Good question. I have no clue why or exactly when the G was added. Now I am curious. :)

Howie -

Thanks I knew the difference (in roof) for the ts/tb/spyder. Just was trying to figure out what the "G" was all about, why was it added?

Ben,

Perhaps this will help:

TB: Short for "Transversale Berlinetta" and primarily associated with the Ferrari 348TB, which featured a transverse-mounted gearbox inspired by the 312 T Formula 1 car.

GT: Short for "Gran Turismo," literal Italian for "Grand Touring," it refers to a class of cars originally built for racing and sporty touring. In the purest sense of the term, the grand touring classification meant that a car was an enclosed coupe.

GTB: Same as above; B refers to Berlinetta meaning "fixed roof coupe".

TS: Short for "Transversale Spider" and primarily associated with the Ferrari 348TS, which a featured a transverse-mounted gearbox inspired by the 312 T Formula 1 car.

GTS: See "GT," above. The "S" stands for "spider." GTS Ferraris are usually not true "spiders" in the sense that they weren't fully convertible (or cabriolet) but rather "targa top," meaning that the roof panel is removable.

Hope this helps.

Frank,
I think they got you a carbon package sold as a SF edition. It was probably aftermarket...Hey Modman, I am looking in your direction :-))

The difference between the TS and GTS etc is the year they were made. In 1994 Ferrari decided that they wanted to go bck to calling them GTb or S instead of just plain TS and TB. I think also the fact that TS stands for Transversale (the build in of the engine) Spider, and then in 1994 they launched the Spider as well. Their first 2 seater cabriolet in a while. So the TS and the Spider would have possibly been misunderstood.
Mostly nobody knows what TS means anyway.
There were some changes on the axle though between the 1993 and the 1994. They are a tad different.

I have seen a blue 348 Spider Fiorano and it had a carbon fiber console , door siles and shifter. I was just wondering what other differences there were. In Europe Ferrari made a 348 GTS and 348 GTB in 1994 instead of the TS and TB.

Hey Martin -

What is the difference between:

348tb and 348gtb?
348ts and 348gts?

What's the "G"?

Correct

There were 100 made between 1992 and 1993. Then another 15 in 1994. I have a 1993 348 SS and btw I do not think there was a SF 348

And currently a SF edition of the 550 Maranello...seen it with my own eyes.

The last 100 of those are now being built, shipped and delivered.

-Ben

P.S. There are more than 100 348ss. They made an initial run of 100, then a year or so later made at least 15 more. Noel, Argyle or other 348ss owners help me out here....

There's a Series Fiorano Edition for the last 100 F355s produced. Not sure about the 348s though..
